This Summer Student position will assist the Municipal Bylaw offices with By-law complaints and Parking related tasks, addressing the diverse needs of our community and maintaining high quality service.

Compensation and Work Term$18.15 to $19.70 per hour
May to August, 35 hours per weekQualifications
  • Enrolled in or completed Community College in Law & Security, Police Foundation, Criminology, or related field.
  • Basic knowledge of the Ontario Court of Justice, the Provincial Offences Act, The Municipal Act, Ontario Evidence Act, and other related Provincial and Federal Legislation would be an asset.
  • Verbal communication skills including courtesy, tact and explanation.
  • Valid and satisfactory G or G2 Ontario drivers licence is an asset.
  • May be required to work evenings and weekends.
  • Varied work environment with requirements to work outside in inclement weather and work in an office environment with significant interruptions.
Responsibilities
  • Assist By-law officers with by-law and parking complaints from the public, educate complainants.
  • Assist By-law officers with inspecting to determine compliance with the Municipality's regulatory, Zoning and Property Standards, By-laws as well as agreements between the public and Municipality when required.
  • Assist By-law officers with the enforcement of the Municipality's parking by-laws, including parking meter infractions, and prohibited infractions.
  • Assist By-law officers with the collection of coin from all parking meters on a weekly basis; coordinate the repair of the parking meters; collect payments for infractions, recording and depositing of same on a weekly basis.
  • Assist By-law officers with the response to enquiries, phone calls, complaints in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Adhere to high standards of ethical behavior and demonstrate their understanding that their personal actions impact the public's perception of the Municipality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Municipal Law Enforcement Supervisor or designate
