OVERVIEW

Vertex is currently accepting applications for a full-time, permanent Hydrogeologist to join our team in Sherwood Park, or Calgary Alberta. The successful candidate will have experience with hydrogeological assessment (physical and contaminant), groundwater monitoring, geological and hydrogeological mapping, monitoring well and source well completions, and aquifer testing/characterization.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Hydrogeology or related physical science field of study

Licensed as a Professional Engineer or Professional Geoscientist in the Province of Alberta (or equivalent)

3-5 years project experience in hydrogeology, direct experience in Alberta is considered as asset

7-10 years of field experience in an upstream oil and gas environmental project work

Inherent knowledge regarding processes and components of hydrogeology

Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, mentorship and manage small teams under senior leadership

Working knowledge understand, remain current, and have the ability to interpret environmental regulations, guidelines, requirements, and standards as required by Vertex business and client base

Ability to multitask several projects, including budgeting and scheduling of projects

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide technical expertise and guidance on various environmental assessment projects as required
  • Develop and manage project-specific budgets in alignment with the projects unique scope and strategy
  • Provide input to the improvement and enhancement of internal procedures related to hydrogeology
  • Supervise, lead, and train personnel on groundwater monitoring technique, single well response tests, and aquifer pumping tests
  • Supervise, lead, and train personnel on borehole drilling and lithology logging and installation of environmental monitoring wells and water source wells
  • Hydrogeological data analysis and interpretation in support of technical report preparation
  • Lead and support preparation of proposals, scope development, and cost estimates
  • Facilitate projects, including mobilization, demobilization, staffing requirements, and scheduling of equipment, materials and facilities to ensure work is executed efficiently and effectively
  • Advise clients regarding strategy and approach for project work, delivery of technical documents, and communication of progress
  • Work with the internal groundwater team to share resources and grow technical expertise within the team
  • Share knowledge and expertise regardless of region, service line or sector responsibility
  • Willingness to travel and participate in field work, primarily within western Canada and the ability to adapt to unpredictable and/or inclement field conditions and changing schedules
  • Other related duties

LOCATION

This position will be based out of our Sherwood Park office, located at 2055 Premier Way, or our Calgary office located at 4240 Blackfoot Trail SE.
