Option Excavating Inc. is an Alberta-owned full-service underground infrastructure installation company. We specialize in installing water, sanitary sewers, storm sewer main lines, and services. We serve the municipal public works, petroleum, commercial and residential sectors, and the gas and commercial industries. We also excavate, grade, and haul for various projects throughout British Columbia and Alberta.
We are actively looking for a highly motivated and dedicated team lead/supervisor operator with over 10 years of experience working with hydrovac trucks, straight vacs, and water trucks to lead our growing division. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, reliable, and demonstrate a strong work ethic. This position provides an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the success and growth of our new division, with potential for advancement within the company based on individual performance and dedication.
Job Duties:
- Operate and Maintain Equipment: Safely operate hydrovac, straight vac, and water trucks, ensuring proper maintenance and care of all equipment.
- New Business Development: Proactively seek new work opportunities and projects for the division, establishing and maintaining relationships with potential clients.
- Dispatch and Scheduling: Coordinate and manage the scheduling of equipment and personnel to ensure projects are completed on time and efficiently.
- Customer Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with existing clients, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction and repeat business.
- Safety and Compliance: Ensure all operations adhere to safety standards and regulatory requirements, promoting a culture of safety on all job sites.
- Job Site Coordination: Supervise and coordinate daily activities at job sites to ensure smooth operations and high-quality service delivery.
- Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Conduct regular inspections and maintenance on equipment to ensure it is in optimal working condition. Troubleshoot any issues that arise during operations.
- Audit Log Books and Hours of Service: Maintain accurate audit logs, track equipment hours of service, and ensure all regulatory documentation is up-to-date and compliant with industry standards.
- Assist with Operator Training: Assist in the training and development of new operators, ensuring they are properly equipped with the knowledge and skills to operate the equipment safely and efficiently.
- Road Evaluations and Competencies: Conduct road evaluations to assess route suitability and ensure operators are familiar with required competencies for safe and efficient operation.
- Basic Maintenance: Perform basic maintenance on equipment, including cleaning, inspections, and minor repairs to ensure vehicles are in good working order.
- Unit Maintenance and Care: Ensure all equipment and units are properly maintained, serviced, and repaired as needed to minimize downtime and ensure reliable operation.
- After-Hours Support: Handle after-hour calls from operators, providing assistance with any operational issues or emergencies that may arise during off-hours.
- Reporting and Documentation: Keep detailed records of work completed, communications with clients, and job site activities, ensuring proper documentation for future reference and reporting.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with other team members to ensure tasks are completed efficiently, and provide training or guidance to less experienced operators when necessary.
- General Housekeeping: Perform general housekeeping to ensure equipment is clean and operating properly.
- Hydro Excavation: Perform hydro excavation using high-pressure water and vacuum systems.
- Miscellaneous Labour: Perform miscellaneous labour activities and assist tradespersons as needed.
- Physically Demanding Tasks: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks as required by the job.
- Equipment Operation: Ability to operate required equipment safely and responsibly.
- Time Management Skills: Strong time management skills to effectively manage tasks and priorities.
- Tool and Materials Handling: Ability to work with tools, pipes, and materials in a safe and efficient manner.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Must be willing to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety boots, etc.
- Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and work environments.
- Respect for Diversity: Demonstrates respect for diversity, treating others with respect and maintaining a positive work environment.
Job Qualifications and Requirements:
- Class 3 License with Airbrakes: Must hold a valid Class 1 or 3 drivers license with airbrakes.
- Clean Driver Abstract: Must have a 3 year clean driving record.
- Pre/Post-Trip Inspections: Must be familiar with conducting pre- and post-trip inspections of equipment.
- Travel and Shift Work: Willingness to accept travel-based assignments across Alberta, including shift work.
- Tire Chaining Experience: Experience with chaining tires in various conditions.
- Land Spreading Experience: Familiarity with land spreading operations.
- Safety and Job Procedures: Must follow all safety and job procedures at all times.
- Effective Communication: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
- Required tickets: CSTS 2020, PCST, H2S Alive, Ground disturbance level 2 Supervisor, Fall Protection, First Aid with CPR
