Summary:
The Lead HSE and Transportation Specialist will be responsible for leading a team while also supporting the health, safety and environmental (HSE) and transportation compliance activities for the Company. Providing technical, operational and administrative support for the Company's HSE Management System across our operations. The position ideally based out of Grande Prairie, Alberta and will require regular travel to all Certarus and client locations in Canada with the majority of travel being required in the Western Canada region. The position reports directly to the HSE Manager – Northern Region.
Schedule:
This position holds normal business hours with on call responsibilities, and up to 50% travel expected to support Western Canadian operations.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Expert knowledge of provincial and federal regulations, standards, and laws as applicable to geographic area supported.
- Ensure all field employees understand and comply with all regulatory requirements and Company safety practices.
- Performs compliance audits of work sites to ensure follow up on corrective actions.
- Develop and prepare reports for leadership as required.
- Verify compliance regarding inventory, storage, handling, and transportation of hazardous materials used in conducting Company field operations.
- Assist with conducting all site inspections required or initiated by regulatory agency representatives.
- Perform routine inspections of equipment and environmental conditions to verify continuous compliance.
- Audit field safety and environmental paperwork for accuracy and compliance.
- Assist and mentor field supervisory personnel with incident investigations, determining causes, and preparing detailed and accurate analysis reports.
- Support and participate in the organization's HSE initiatives.
- Manage and resources personnel to adequately cover operations.
- Responsible for the development of strategies and operational plans for their area of responsibility and execute these plans and deliver agreed upon results.
- Provide strong leadership, direction and motivation to the team.
- Strive for industry-leading safety and compliance performance and implement plans to reach KPI targets.
- Provide representation for the HSE department in relation to other Certarus functional areas.
- Drive continuous improvement of departmental processes and enhance integration with other departments.
- Liaise with client and contractor representatives promoting the Certarus HSE programs and Core Values.
- Actively participate in the Certarus Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC).
- Develop expertise and become subject matter expert in the Certarus Health Safety & Environment Management System (CHSEMS).
- Oversee serious incident investigations and corrective actions and respond to scene where necessary.
- Liaise with regulators to promote proactive communication and cooperation.
- Support Certarus organizational levels in adhering to positional HSE responsibilities.
- Support overall company adherence to company policies and regulations governing Certarus operations.
- Work closely with Regional Operations Managers on design, implementation and maintenance of HSE programs and initiatives.
- Report on HSE performance to local operational Management.
- Work on special projects under minimal guidance of the HSE Manager – Northern Region.
- Promote and drive a proactive and positive HSE culture within Certarus.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in an HSE role.
- Bachelor's degree and/or a diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or related discipline, or a combination of education and management experience that would be considered equivalent.
- Professional certification (CRSP or CSP) is an advantage.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian and USA Occupational Health & Safety, and Transportation regulations.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements to mitigate operational risk.
- Prior experience supporting upstream/midstream energy services and/or production operations strongly desired.
- Prior experience in developing policies, practices, and governance of internal HSE Management systems is an advantage.
- Demonstrated ability to foster relationships/partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills for audiences across regionally diverse areas.
- Proficient with Microsoft 365 Suite, with strong MS Excel skills.
- Valid passport with the ability to travel within Canada and the United States
