Student Transportation of Canada (STC) is the Canadian division of Student Transportation Inc, one of North America's largest and most trusted school transportation providers.

We are expanding our routes in the Regional Municipality of Halifax and are currently hiring multiple School Bus Monitors for the 2025 – 2026 school year.

A School Bus Monitor is a safety first individual responsible for assisting in the careful transport of children on home-to-school routes. School Bus Monitors must be compassionate people capable of managing a group of students of varying ages, needs and behaviors. A School Bus Monitor is a non-driving role that specializes in observing the passenger load, tracking and directing activity. They may be required to load and or unload specific special needs equipment.

School Bus Monitors work a split shift Monday through Friday, both morning and afternoon.

Job Duties

  • Assist in the loading and unloading of passengers and equipment at designated locations and schools
  • Assist in the transport of students and teachers on school activity trips
  • Monitor passenger loads for discipline recommendations and other potential risks or distractions
  • Follow company policies regarding client management and relations with parents, teachers, guardians, medical practitioners, medical facilities, and the public in general
  • Keep records and submit reports as required

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of all required School Bus Monitor training (provided training through STC)
  • Successfully obtain First Aid & CPR certification (covered by STC)
  • Experience working with children/children with special needs an asset

Physical & Additional Requirements

  • Ability to walk, bend, twist, turn and lift up-to 50lbs
  • Sit for extended periods of time with repeated arm and shoulder movement to open and close door
