HEABC takes a provincial leadership role in human resources and labour relations, including disability management, issues management for more than 218 publicly funded health care employers. HEABC is responsible for negotiating six major provincial agreements covering more than 138,000 unionized health care employees including nurses, health science professionals, ambulance paramedics and dispatchers, physician residents, and support workers in both facilities and community settings.

The successful candidate may be permitted to work in a hybrid model (two (2) days per week on site in the office) and will live within commuting distance of our Vancouver office.

OPPORTUNITY:

Reporting to the Payroll and Accounting Supervisor, the Intermediate Accountant is responsible for the day-to-day accounting functions of HEABC, including preparation of corporate credit card allocations & reconciliations, monthly financial statements and year-end working papers.

Responsibilities include:

  • Performing monthly allocations, journal entries and reconciliations, as applicable. Including, but not limited to, corporate credit cards, general ledger accounts and Trust Under Administration accounts.
  • Communicating with HEABC staff regarding expense reports, corporate credit cards, and travel guidelines.
  • Preparing and reconciling monthly department financial operations, including reporting and monitoring expenses against budget.
  • Preparing monthly financial statements and reconciling supporting schedules for the balance sheet and selected operating accounts.
  • Preparing a variety of reporting documents, including monthly GST reports, statistics and employee taxation reports.
  • Supporting cashflow analysis and transfer funds among bank and investment accounts.
  • Supporting year-end processes such as: audit confirmations, accounts analysis & reconciliation, and year-end working papers.

Job Qualifications:
Enrollment in a CPA or related program, minimum 4th level, and five (5) years recent related accounting experience, are required. Completion of CPA or related accounting designation is preferred. HEABC will also consider an equivalent combination of training and experience.

  • Advanced MS Excel skills, including high degree of expertise with Pivot Tables.
  • Intermediate knowledge of accounting and payroll systems.
  • Ability to organize workload, establish priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, including preparing statistical data.
  • Ability to work effectively with others as part of a team.
  • Ability to train junior staff and delegate workload, as required.
  • Experience with Public Sector Accounting would be an asset but not required.
  • Experience with Sage 300 also considered an asset, but not required.

Salary Range: $74,618 to $97,937
Typical Hiring Range: $74,618 to $93,273

In determining salary, HEABC considers many factors including the successful candidates skillset and experience, as well as internal equity. The final salary offer will be at HEABCs sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
