WHO WE ARE

Leq:mel First Nation is a self-governing First Nation community as a signatory to the Framework Agreement on First Nation Land Management. Located 22 kilometers east of Mission, we continue to assert our inherent rights of self-government over our Territory, which covers a vast area of the lower mainland. LFN has approximately 600 members and is governed by Chief and Council through Custom Election Code. Position Overview:

Within the context of a client and family centered care model and in accordance with established vision and values of the organization, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for the administration of health services according to the directives of the Health Manager and Registered Nurse. The LPN guides and provides direction to staff members including the Home and Community Health/Care Aid and other Health Center employees on patient care needs and service delivery.

Primary Duties an Responsibilities

Support the planning and implementation of health programs aligned with the strategic vision of Leq:mel First Nation.

Support the development of strategies, policies, and protocols in support of meeting the departments mandate including sound documentation, record keeping and preparation of reports.

Support the development and implementation of frameworks to assess client needs and assess program and service performance.

Program and Service Delivery

Support the development and implementation of the Community Health Program.

Manage the operations of the over-the-counter pharmacy.

Administer services within the community aligned with the Public Health Agency of Canada, ensuring that all safety and care standards are understood and met.

Administer medication as prescribed by the Registered Nurse including oral, PRN, oral narcotics, and subcutaneous insulin.

Ensure that the care environment provides minimum risk to clients and staff.

Assist in the coordination with Pre-Occupancy Meetings with local authorities including SN Health.

Confidentiality and Privacy Adherence

Maintain patient confidentiality as per law including speaking quietly, and the safeguarding of electronic and paper records.

Receive reports of Breach of Confidentiality and report to the Privacy Commissioner or Ombudsperson according to PHIA requirements and act as a liaison during investigations when required.

Manage complaints from clients, patients, staff members about potential breaches in privacy.

Human Resources Management

Provide directions and supervision to the Home and Community Health Care Aid on assigned tenant care services.

Understand and follow human resources policies through respectful interactions and compliance with expectations.

Relationship Management

Support advocacy efforts for the wellbeing of community members to external agencies such as FNHA, VCH, Health Canada, and local health care providers.

Promote, provide, and practice a positive working environment aligned with the culture and values of LFN.

Proactively develop and maintain collaborative and respectful relationships with all internal and external stakeholders including community members, partners, governments, agencies etc.

Maintain and foster a positive relationship with members of the community, clients, and external stakeholders.

Perform other duties and responsibilities as necessary in the performance of the position and as assigned by the Supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Strong knowledge of the Privacy Impact Act, PHIA Legislation, and Privacy Health Officer Information Act.

Maintain knowledge of FN health systems including FNHA health and wellness programs, best practices,

Demonstrated knowledge of updated nursing best practices and client care.

Demonstrated experience using body-mechanics and knowledge of injury prevention.

Strong communication skills with ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically both verbally and in writing.

Ability to organize workload priorities within a team environment.

Ability to work with vulnerable people.

Awareness of and ability to demonstrate cultural awareness and sensitivity.

Demonstrate dedication to the role and to the LFN Community.

Assist clients with activities of daily life such as client transport, bathing, dressing, skin care, toileting as needed.

Experience and Education Requirements:

Degree, diploma or equivalent certificate from an accredited Practical Nursing institution inclusive of a pharmacology module.

Current practicing registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the British College of Nurses and Midwives.

Current First Aid, CPR certificate

Minimum of three years working in a health care environment.

Willingness to sign a non-disclosure agreement is required.

Demonstrated working knowledge of client-centered, trauma-informed practice.

Knowledge of harm reduction and Mental Health support with vulnerable clients.

Valid Class 5 drivers license.

Valid Food Safe certificate.

Environmental Conditions:

Physical Effort: This position involves regular walking, bending and carrying objects as well as handing of chemicals or other potentially harmful materials.

Environment: Duties for this position are typically performed indoors in an office setting.

Mental Demands: This position is in a busy environment subject to regular distractions with telephone, email, and interruptions. This position may require handling difficult and demanding personal interactions.
