Wilco Contractors Northwest Inc. is seeking an Health & Safety Advisor to join its team. This full time-year round position, is based out of our Edmonton facility located at 14420- 154 Ave NW, Edmonton. Your work will be local to the Edmonton and area!
As a Health and Safety Advisor, you will collaborate with Superintendents, Foremen, and field staff to guide and support health and safety practices. Your role includes ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and fostering a strong safety culture. Additionally, you will create and deliver training programs to enhance health and safety awareness.

Responsibilities- Ensure the safety program is aligned and complies with OHS regulations and applicable provincial legislative and regulatory laws for jurisdictions the company is operating within.
- Maintain a visible presence to the field by performing site inspections to ensure adherence to corporate safety policies.
- Shared responsibility for onboarding & safety orientation and safety training management.
- Encourages and promotes a safe work culture with a positive attitude and team approach.
- Manage Workers' Compensation (WCB) claims and return to work programs.
- Development of SWPs, JSAs, ERPs, and Site-Specific Safety Plans.
- Liaise closely with all field personnel to ensure that the company HSE mandates, safety culture and vision are adhered to at all time.
- Proactively develop and maintain corporate safety policies and procedures in accordance with OHS to reduce risks.
- Maintenance and ongoing development of the Corporate Safety Manual with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Development of Traffic Accommodation Plans in accordance with project specs.
- Maintain all requirements, documentation and filing for COR certification and audits.
- Manage incident investigations, near miss reporting, and root cause analysis.
- Prepare safety reports and bulletins for staff review.
- Keeping detailed matrix for training requirements, maintain records of all health and safety-related training and assist in the development of rollout programs.
- Lead safety meetings and all associated communications with employees and clients.
- Act as a resource to the Joint Health and Safety Committee, assisting and providing information and responses on behalf of the company.
Requirements
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in health and safety in the construction industry- preference in heavy equipment or heavy civil construction
- HSE diploma/certificate, National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation, Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST) or Professional (CRSP) is an asset.
- Knowledge of the OH&S Act, regulations and industry best practices
- Experience working with WCB & claims management
- Experience conducting orientation and training
- Familiarity with web-based safety management systems
- Strong interpersonal, problem-solving and listening skills
- Ability to represent the company in a professional and courteous manner
- Valid class 5 drivers license (minimum) with acceptable abstract
- Solid organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Office environment (40%), field environment (50%), and shop/yard environment (10%)
