About the Opportunity

The Community Capacity Building (CCB) teams mission is to ensure the vibrancy and vitality of the Toronto Jewish community by strengthening the essential infrastructure necessary for our community, addressing the most pressing challenges of the day, and looking forward to ensuring the community is prepared for future challenges. The team leads UJAs strategy in community planning and investments.

The team encompasses a broad portfolio of interventions that includes: Jewish Education & Engagement, Affordability of Jewish life, Research & Community Insights, Human Services, the Toronto Holocaust Museum, and the Ontario Jewish Archives. Our work is underpinned by an evidence-based approach, partnerships with a wide range of community organizations, and deep relationships with philanthropic partners. As examples of our forward-looking approach, amongst other issues, we are currently in the early stages of planning around the impact that aging, housing affordability and urban sprawl will have on the Jewish community.

UJAs vision is that data-driven insights should lead our interventions, ensuring we meet the needs of the community by continuously improving our programs and processes, and consistently maintaining high levels of impact. Reporting to the Senior Vice President, CCB, the Vice President, Research & Community Insights leads a small research and insights team to amplify CCBs efforts in impact and performance measurement, business intelligence, knowledge management, and data analysis. Leveraging internal stakeholders to forge strong external relationships, this role ensures that UJA remains donor-centric, data-driven, and impact-oriented, leveraging insights to strengthen both community investments and internal performance.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Designing and implementing a leading-edge measurement framework that assesses UJAs impact in the broader Jewish community through funding allocations.

Ensuring that UJA has the data, analytics and storytelling capabilities to identify the most pressing needs in the community, demonstrate impact and strengthen donor stewardship.

Conducting, synthesizing and translating quantitative and qualitative research into actions and helping inform UJAs strategy and investments.

Identifying and forecasting demographic shifts (e.g. aging, urban sprawl, affordability) and their impact on community sustainability.

Assessing the effectiveness of programs and ensuring that UJAs interventions are evidence-based and continuously improving.

Leverage key internal stakeholders and partners to be seen as a thought leader and advocate for data-driven decision-making across the Jewish community, equipping agencies and partners to adopt data-driven insights and strengthen their organizational strategies and impact.

Qualifications:

Advanced degree in relevant social science field (or advanced degree with sufficient research experience).

10+ years' experience in progressively responsible, hands-on leadership roles.

Proven ability to lead and mentor high-performing research teams while fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.

Significant direct experience in evaluation, outcomes-based research and analytics, and impact measurement.

Experience with multi-method evaluation in a consulting, analytics, or in-house monitoring and evaluation role in a global private, public, or non-profit sector organization.

Experience identifying and forecasting demographic shifts and their impact on community sustainability.

Ability to present research findings clearly and persuasively.

Ability to translate complex data into actionable insights that drive impactful policies, funding decisions, and community initiatives.

Data analytics, research, conceptual and problem-solving skills required to design and manage implementation of complex data and business intelligence strategies to support research, program evaluation, performance management and other data-related initiatives.

Strong communication skills, including excellent written and oral presentation abilities.

Solid interpersonal skills and a strong convener and influencer, able to conceive and advance a sophisticated learning agenda both internally and in the broader field.

Experience building a cross-organization learning culture and leading knowledge sharing.

Advanced skills in MS Office and understanding of tools used for business intelligence, analytics, evaluation and knowledge management.

Knowledge of the not-for-profit sector is an asset.

Deep knowledge of the Jewish community dynamics locally and globally.

This is a full-time permanent position. At UJA we support a flexible work schedule and all of our employees engage in hybrid work.
