Position Summary

As a Software Designer in our North American Driver and Vehicle Information Systems (NA DVIS) group, you will play a pivotal role in the software development lifecycle as you translate conceptual ideas and user requirements into functionally and technically sound features and applications.

Job Description

What You Will Do

  • Design and Architecture
    • Lead the architectural design of software systems and applications
    • Develop data, process, and network models to optimize architecture and evaluate design performance
    • Create multiple design views to balance stakeholder concerns and address functional and non-functional requirements
    • Bridge the gap between system requirements and software implementation
  • Development and Implementation
    • Design software components and modules using appropriate modeling techniques
    • Evaluate and integrate software applications, technical environments, and operating systems
  • Collaboration and Communication
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define technical requirements
    • Communicate overall design and approach to programming teams
    • Work closely with software developers to ensure designs meet solution needs
  • Innovation and Improvement
    • Evaluate existing systems and propose innovative approaches to modernize and optimize them
    • Stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and industry trends
  • Leadership and Mentoring
    • Lead and coordinate teams of information systems professionals in software development
    • Provide technical guidance to junior team members
  • Various other duties and responsibilities
Qualifications

Knowledge and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering (or similar) or equivalent combination of education and years of relevant work experience
  • Knowledge of the following:
    • Various architectural styles (micro-services, monolithic)
    • Domain driven design (DDD) principles and event driven architecture (EDA)
    • Software design principles, patterns, and best practices
    • Software security principles, standards and compliance frameworks
    • Agile development methodologies
    • DevOps methodology/practices and tools
  • 10+ years of total software development experience
    • 3+ years of experience designing, deploying, managing and optimizing modern software architectures
    • Experience modernizing and migrating legacy systems
    • Experience with Agile (SCRUM), DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines

Technology

  • Programming Languages: Java, C#, JavaScript
  • Frameworks/Libraries: Spring, Angular, WPF, WCF
  • Databases: PostgreSQL, Oracle
  • Platforms: Linux servers, Windows, Apache Tomcat, Vmware and alternatives
  • Tools: Microsoft Visual Studio, IntelliJ IDEA, Atlassian tool stack (Jira, BitBucket, Bamboo, Confluence)
  • Security: SOC2, NIST, ISO, etc.
  • Development Pipeline/Methodologies: Agile/Scrum, DevOps, CI/CD
