PROGRAM SUMMARY:
Cottonwood Manor is a seniors housing facility in Houston offering 6 Assisted Living units and 16 independent rental units. This project is a partnership between SCSA, BC Housing and the Northern Health Authority. Together we provide seniors with affordable housing, social and recreational activities, hospitality and personal care services. Our intention is to enable people who require some assistance to remain living independently.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Prepare delicious and nutritious meals for assisted living residents. Serve lunch and dinner and clean up after each meal.
Clean tenant units weekly and common areas regularly, provide laundry services for residents.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports To:Cottonwood Manor Site Manager
COOKING:
Provide residents at Cottonwood Manor with 2 meals per day, lunch and dinner. Meals are to be served no later than 12:00 PM and 5:00 PM daily unless alternate arrangements have been made.
Store, prepare and serve meals in accordance with recognized Food Safe practices.
oEnsure that the facilities available are adequate for heating, cooling, cooking, refrigerating and freezing food.
oFor storing refrigerated or frozen foods, monitor food temperature, and when necessary, controlling ambient temperature to ensure the safety and suitability of food.
oPrevent microbial cross contamination by separating raw, unprocessed food physically or by date from ready-to-eat foods, with effective intermediate cleaning, and where appropriate, disinfection.
Prepare wholesome, nutritionally balanced meals that will contribute to the health of the recipient by:
oIncorporating the Canadian Food Guide Recommendations to Healthy Eating
oProviding appropriate servings sizes
oUsing fresh ingredients as much as possible with a minimum of pre-packed/pre-prepared foods
Adhere to the menu proposed by Smithers Community Services Association unless changes to the menu have been made or approved by Smithers Community Services Association or a certified dietician.
Make accommodations for residents with special dietary needs which may include but is not limited to special food items, consistency of food, sodium and sugar content. We do not provide therapeutic diets.
Prepare shopping list for menu items when necessary.
Purchase menu items when necessary.
Post lunch and dinner menu on board daily.
Provide additional meals for guests, as requested, when given adequate notice.
Provide extra snacks for special events when requested.
Have appropriate procedures in place to ensure that any necessary cleaning and maintenance is carried out effectively and an appropriate degree of personal hygiene is maintained. Including but not limited to fridges, freezers, counters, cupboards.
HOSPITALITY & MEAL SERVICE:
Prepare dining area for meals.
Serve meals in dining room and/or deliver to residents units.
Clear dishes and left-over food.
Clean and disinfect all dishes and utensils, and dining and kitchen areas.
Assist with recreation activities when necessary.
HOUSE KEEPING:
Clean common areas. This includes: vacuuming, washing floor areas, cleaning washrooms, dusting, washing walls, and garbage removal.
Clean tenant units weekly. This includes: vacuuming, washing floors, spot cleaning walls, baseboards and window sills, washroom, checking refrigerator, stove, and counters.
Change and launder bedding and linens
Assist with an annual spring cleaning of the common areas and tenant units or when a tenant moves out.
Inform the Site Manager when cleaning supplies are low.
Other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
Experience cooking family style meals
Must have current Food Safe, Level 1 First Aid, and WHIMIS certification or be willing to complete the training (sponsored by SCSA)
