GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT
Accountable to the Store Supervisor/Director, the store Clerk at Rod's One Stop is responsible for providing excellent customer service by efficiently scanning items, processing payments, and handling transactions. This includes accepting payments in the form of cash, checks, or credit cards from customers in exchange for products or services. The Store Clerk also balances the cash drawer at the end of each shift. This role is fundamental in achieving customer satisfaction and contributing to revenue growth objectives.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Payment Transactions:Handle payment transactions (cash, credit/debit card) between customers and the retail store, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
- Customer Interaction:Greet customers warmly, answer phones, and direct inquiries to the appropriate party.
- Billing and Payments:Answer routine billing questions/issues from customers, receive and process all payments according to standard procedures, and balance daily cash to ensure receipts match.
- Product Scanning:Scan products, operate scanning equipment, and resolve any scanning issues.
- Opening and Closing:Assist in the opening and closing of the retail location, including cash handling and deposits.
- Customer Assistance:Inform customers about available products/services, assess customer needs, and examine products for damages and price accuracy.
- Coordination:Coordinate with retail staff for product inquiries and price checks.
- Issue Resolution:Resolve escalated issues with customers who are angry or dissatisfied.
- Training:Train and sometimes supervise new cashiers or other retail workers.
- Store Maintenance:Assist in maintaining the storefront and retail displays, including stocking shelves/coolers with products as needed throughout the shift.
- Inventory Management:Inform the manager or assistant manager of items needed, such as low numbers of lotto tickets or fully stocked packs of smokes.
- Expired/Damaged Items:Dispose of any expired or damaged items in the store properly, ensuring proper documentation.
- Cleaning:Dust and clean all shelves during the shift, ensuring all items are available at the front row of the shelf and checking expiry dates.
- Paperwork:Complete, process, and maintain applicable paperwork, reports, and records.
- Pricing:Itemize and total purchases by recording prices, departments, taxable and non-taxable items, and enter price changes by referring to price sheets and special sale bulletins.
- Discounts:Apply discounts by redeeming coupons.
- Customer Amenities:Ensure that fresh coffee is available for customers.
- Store Cleanliness: Maintain cleanliness and maintenance of the store, including:
- Cleaning counters, coffee area, and microwave throughout the shift.
- Removing garbage from containers and disposing of it properly.
- Checking and cleaning the bathroom on an hourly basis and ensuring it is well supplied.
- Sweeping and mopping floors to maintain clean and safe premises.
- Cleaning the parking area and walkway of debris.
- Clearing the walkway of snow or ice and adding salt as necessary.
- Shoveling the gas pump area and entrance ways when snow or slush-covered, and monitoring gas pumps for potential drive-aways.
- Safety and Security: Ensure the store and property are safe, including:
- Inspecting leak detection systems.
- Manually observing the gauges of all tanks to detect the presence of water and taking readings.
- Inspecting product pumps.
- Gauging observation wells and inspecting spill pipes, and initialing the Operators Environmental handbook.
- Reporting any leakage, safety, and/or environmental threats to management.
- Inspecting and cleaning pump handles during the winter to ensure they are not frozen.
- Team Contribution:Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Product Validation:Validate and establish prices of products and apply price stickers.
- Packaging:Bag, box, or wrap packages for customers.
- Patrol:Patrol assigned areas to guard against theft, vandalism, and fire.
- Other Duties:Perform other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous retail or customer service experience preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle transactions accurately and responsibly.
- Basic math skills for handling cash and processing payments.
