The Gathering Places mission is to provide low-barrier, street-level support for marginalized individuals through collaborative partnerships and engagement. As a non-profit community health centre, The Gathering Place offers integrated health and social services to individuals who are homeless or precariously housed. The Position

The Director of Human Resources and Operations plays a crucial role in advancing the organization's mission and strategic goals by offering leadership and direction in the areas of general administration and human resources. The Director develops and executes strategies and plans to optimize operational processes, focusing on volunteer management, food delivery systems, facility management, and maintenance. By fostering a culture of efficiency and productivity, the person ensures that these key functions contribute to the overall success of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating human resources and labour relations strategies.

Advising employers and employees on human resources policies, compensation, and benefit programs.

Interpret and provide guidance on collective agreements to ensure compliance with contractual obligations.

Act as a trusted advisor to management, offering clear explanations and advice on complex labour relations issues.

Facilitates the resolution of labor disputes through negotiation and mediation.

Develops human resources policies and implements within a unionized environment.

Leads the negotiation of collective agreements and builds strong working relationships with the union.

Mentors, coaches, and leads the human resources team.

Researches and prepares job classifications, job descriptions, salary scales, and performance management systems.

Oversee all functions related to human resources, including employee records, compensation, benefits, recruitment, retention, employee health and safety, and training programs.

Leads Disability Management initiatives and key liaison with Workplace.

Oversee all functions of Volunteerism, Kitchen, Maintenance, and Custodian teams.

Co-Chair of the Occupational Health and Safety Committee and prepare agenda, and minutes of meetings, and responsible for action items.

Analyze current processes and procedures and recommend solutions for improvements

Oversee the Volunteer Coordinator with the training, scheduling, and supervision of the volunteers

Participate in the Director on Call shifts, for after-hour emergency response

Responsible for the safe, effective, and efficient delivery of services to TGP Guests.

What Youll Bring:

Bachelor or Master degree in business or human resources. CHRP designation is an asset.

Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in a unionized environment.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Excellent supervisory, planning, organization, problem-solving, decision-making, liaison, and leadership skills.

Ability to work independently while capable of collaborating within a multidisciplinary team.

Strong desire to help the most vulnerable in our society.

Acceptable Record of Conduct and Vulnerable Sector Check required.
