Summary:

An opportunity exists for a Substation Technologist Onsite Work Leader in the Field Operations team, based in Acheson, AB. Under the direction of the Manager, Substations North, and with the support of the Substation Technologist Work Leader, the Onsite Work Leader will be accountable to provide onsite leadership of their crew and additional Altalink and/or contract crews or personnel in the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of AltaLink substations. The On-Site Work Leader will be expected to continue to perform all aspects of the work at the Journeyman level. The successful candidate will be expected to reside in the Edmonton, or surrounding area.

Responsibilities:

  • Review “Forecasted” and “Scheduled' work orders to receive work assignments, assess the effectiveness, and make recommendations for improvements to the Substation Technologist Work Leader.
  • Ensure a safe work environment for all AltaLink employees, contractors and visitors.
  • Manage Team concerns on site.
  • Develop and coordinate a plan for the work.
  • Review, interpret, and coordinate work and practices to be used while performing work, ensuring that all practices meet or exceed existing policies and regulations.
  • Ensure development and documentation of Safe Work Plans.
  • Assign tasks / projects on site as required.
  • Instruct personnel in duties, safe work practices, use and care of tools and equipment.
  • Assist in training / development of junior personnel through mentorship & assessment.
  • Ensure record keeping and procedure feedback meets Technical Data and Document Management principles and requirements.
  • Perform work at the Journeyman level.
  • Assist in identifying Capability Development needs of staff.
  • Coordinate and provide emergency response to system emergencies.

Requirements

  • Electrical Technologist Diploma or Power System Electrician Journeyman.
  • Minimum of five years related experience.
  • Experience with substation equipment, specific to inspection, operation and maintenance.
  • Previous leadership experience or demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Proven ability/experience in the above noted responsibilities.
  • Ability to plan and coordinate multiple work groups.
  • Proven track record of safe work and commitment to environmental, health and safety best practices.
  • Effective team player capable of creating a positive work environment that inspires and mentors team members to meet and exceed expectations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills (both written and verbal).
  • Able to successfully analyze and problem solve.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities under time constraints/deadlines.
  • Strong initiative and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to interface with team members and customers to promote positive customer outcomes.
  • Knowledge of policies, procedures and regulations impacting the work group.
  • Good physical condition, capable of passing the physical fitness and medical requirements.
  • Valid class 5 driver's license. Driver's abstract to be provided at interview.
  • Able and willing to work at heights and in varying extreme climates.
  • Willing to accept out of town working conditions.
  • Proven track record of good attendance and performance.
