Pay between $85,000- $120,000 based upon experience and education.

Job Description

Chandos Construction is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Safety professional to ensure a safe work environment for all personnel on our job sites. In this role, you will be responsible for promoting and maintaining a safety-first culture, ensuring compliance with Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) regulations, and supporting our safety program across all construction projects.

  • Ensure all duties performed comply with Occupational Health and Safety regulations and adhere to the Chandos Construction Safety Manual.
  • Communicate safety roles and responsibilities clearly to all site personnel, providing regular feedback in a respectful manner.
  • Demonstrate a solid working knowledge of the Chandos Safety Manual and operational procedures.
  • Facilitate, train, and support the implementation of the Chandos Safety Program.
  • Foster and maintain a positive safety culture across all job sites.
  • Steward the safety of all personnel by proactively addressing risks and hazards as they arise.
  • Advise field employees on OH&S legislation, regulations, and safe work practices.
  • Assist construction management teams with project startup safety planning, safety reporting, and constructability input focused on safe work practices.
  • Develop and implement safe work procedures for various sites.
  • Conduct safety investigations and implement corrective actions in a timely manner.
  • Lead weekly safety meetings, daily toolbox talks, and deliver employee safety training, ensuring the passage of critical safety information.
  • Stay current on industry safety advancements and OH&S changes, maintaining required certifications.
  • Help identify potential hazards and recommend appropriate solutions to mitigate them.
  • Coach managers and employees on safety programs and best practices.
  • Participate in Chandos training initiatives as requested.
  • Assist with safety training as required, depending on qualifications.
  • Assist with the COR Audit process, including document gathering, corrective action plans, and compliance document distribution to Kelowna district.
  • Support Chandos Injury Management, WorkSafeBC processes, modified duties, and claims management.
Qualifications
  • NCSO certification required.
  • Trade certification an asset.
  • 6+ years experience in a safety coordinator or similar safety role within the construction industry preferred.
  • 10+ years experience working with a General Contractor preferred.
  • Solid understanding of OH&S regulations, safety programs, and best practices.
  • Experience in various platforms (MS suite, SALUS, Teams)
  • COR Internal Auditor Certificate (asset).
  • Strong communication and leadership skills to work effectively with field employees and management teams.
  • Ability to conduct safety training, deliver safety talks, and facilitate investigations.
  • Ability to identify and address potential hazards in a proactive manner.
  • Familiarity with WCB modified work programs.
  • Ability to travel to various job sites as required.
  • Clean Drivers Abstract.
