This posting is for an Intermediate Wetland Ecologist who will be an integral part of the growing AJM team. The successful candidate(s) may be responsible for leading wetland delineation and classifications, wetland monitoring, preparation of Wetland Assessment and Impact Forms, and Wetland Assessment and Impact Reports. Supporting other bio-physical disciplines may also be a reality of this role.

Roles and responsibilities include:
Assist with or lead the design, planning and implementation of field programs;
Conduct wetland assessments and monitoring activities in a safe, technically defensible, and efficient manner;
Provide technical wetlands support to multi-disciplinary projects;
Lead field crews and take ownership of crew safety including leading by example and mentoring junior staff on safety;
Provide mentorship to junior staff while in field and office, passing on lessons learned and supporting in the development of their technical and non-technical skills;
Analyze field data to develop management and mitigation recommendations;
Write clearly and succinctly to convey environmental considerations and results to clients;
Develop regulatory applications and liaise between regulators and clients when necessary;
Support, and in some cases lead, business development efforts through formal (e.g., proposal writing) and informal (e.g., networking events) avenues;
Maintain technical skills through formal and on-the-job opportunities; and
Work independently, often outside of office hours, to meet challenging deadlines and client requests.
Specific skills and requirements we are looking for include:
Minimum of B.Sc. in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or related discipline;
Registered, or working towards registering as a Professional Agrologist and/or Biologist in Alberta and/or BC is preferred;
Three to five years of relevant industry environmental experience, consulting experience preferred;
Experience with completing wetland delineation and classifications;
Strong plant identification skills, and a desire to continue to learn;
Soil classification experience;
Experience with GIS software;
A self-starter who thrives in a demanding environment working both as part of a team and independently, and a willingness to go the extra mile;
Great communication skills and strong technical writing skills;
Experience providing guidance to management and/or operations personnel;
Existing applicable technical and safety training certifications will be considered an asset;
Ability to learn new technology (and have fun while doing so!);
Working knowledge of relevant provincial and federal legislation and policies;
A desire to get hands dirty in the field and an ability to work remotely for extended periods;
Ability to prioritize competing initiatives, anticipate potential problems and deal with ambiguity;
A strong track record in health and safety;
A valid class 5 drivers license, a clean driving record and minimum 3 years auto insurance history;
Excellent organizational skills and a strong sense of accountability; and
An entrepreneurial spirit.
Safety Requirement:
This role is considered safety-sensitive and will require the submission or a drivers abstract and a claims experience letter for proof of driving history, as well as the successful completion of drug screenings at various times during employment.
