Salary:
The Health and Safety Coordinator will play a vital role in promoting a safe and healthy environment for both residents and employee care partners. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing OHS regulations, monitoring workplace safety, conducting safety audits, and managing Workers' Compensation Board (WCB) claims to ensure compliance with Albertas occupational health and safety legislation.
Part Time 6 Month Contract - 0.5 FTE
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with provincial OHS regulations.
- Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify hazards and implement corrective actions.
- Provide health and safety training to all employee care partners, including emergency response procedures, proper lifting techniques, and infection control measures.
- Manage WCB claims, including reporting, investigation, and return-to-work coordination.
- Maintain and update health and safety records, ensuring documentation is accurate and up to date.
- Provide ongoing support and guidance to all employee care partners regarding health and safety issues.
- Monitor and assess safety performance and recommend improvements to minimize incidents and injuries.
- Maintaining COR
Required Qualifications:
- OHS certification (e.g., CRSP, CHSC) is a strong asset.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in an OHS role, with a preference for experience in senior living, healthcare, or long-term care environments.
- In-depth knowledge of Albertas WCB processes and regulations, as well as other relevant health and safety standards.
- Proven ability to perform accident investigations and generate accurate reports.
- Strong understanding of risk assessment and hazard control methods.
- Experience in incident investigation and root cause analysis.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Ability to work collaboratively across service areas to ensure workplace safety initiatives are effectively implemented.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for training, reporting, and interacting with all levels of staff.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects effectively.
- Knowledge of the COR process
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working within a senior care environment or healthcare setting.
- First aid and CPR certification.
- Ability to use safety management software and tools.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities in promoting workplace safety culture.
