Position Title: Assistant Teacher
Reports to: Principal

Hours of Work: 7.5 hours per day, Monday Friday, must be available within the hours of 7am 6pm; rotating

THE ORGANIZATION
The Montessori Country School is located in Milton, Halton Region, Ontario, Canada, and is a fully-licensed childcare centre, registered private school and accredited Montessori school, which provides programs for children ages 3 years to 9 years of age. Through the Montessori Country School Milton, children receive care designed to help them develop their academic, emotional and social skills, and grow the foundations they will need to succeed in life. THE ROLE
The Assistant Teacher engages each child in the classroom with hands-on learning and assists the lead teacher(s) as they execute their role(s). This person would reflect our mission and vision to provide high quality care for children.
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS
- Up-to-date First Aid and CPR
- Up-to-date Immunization and 2-tiered TB test
- Experience working with children between 18 months 6 years (childcare experience an asset)
- Strengths in organizational skills, communication skills, parent education and leadership
- Excellent teamwork skills
- Confident and flexible professionalism
- Love of outdoors
- Criminal Reference Check (current within 6 months of start date) Job offers are contingent upon the successful completion of a Police Records Check. Within the first four months and every three years thereafter, a Vulnerable Police Records Check is required
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- The primary responsibility of the Assistant Teacher is to assist the lead teacher(s) in planning and implementing a program which provides for the optimal physical, cognitive, social and emotional wellbeing of the children in her/his care.
- Works cooperatively as a team member, encourages others to do likewise and consistently maintains a positive attitude.
- Takes initiative in completing tasks without direction
- Participates with children in all planned activities.
- Effectively supervises children on all scheduled school walks, field trips and other outings.
- Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers.
- Attends and contributes to staff meetings and in-house professional development whether during or after regular work hours.
- Maintains confidentiality of clients, co-workers and the school centre as appropriate.
- Is sensitive to parents needs and maintains a supportive relationship with them on a professional level while following school policies
