Nature and Scope
The Finance Assistant - Summer Student provides administrative functions while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and careful handling of highly confidential and sensitive information. General Accountability
The Finance Assistant - Summer Student will have the opportunity to gain excellent experience while developing the skills necessary to be successful in their future. The summer student will have an opportunity to improve their teamwork and communication skills, as well as, their administrative skills and leadership capabilities. This position includes the following broad range of accountabilities:
Specific Accountabilities
- Assist in preparation of financial documentation and processing of financial transactions
- Perform data entry as required in order to assist finance staff to meet processing schedules and deadlines
- Assist with collection of supporting documentation such as receipts, purchase orders, packing slips, etc.
- Handle and process documents with confidentiality and compliance while exercising best practice with administrative procedures.
- Assist with records management, records destruction and file maintenance - physical and electronic as well as the retention and destruction of documents
- Provide administrative support to the finance department including photocopying, faxing, filing documents and reports and maintaining files, distributing and logging outgoing payments, sorting mail and processing courier items
- Provide support and back-up coverage in the office during periods of high workload and absences
- Provide back up and support for head office reception as required
- Provide additional support on special projects and department initiatives as required
There may be some summer student positions that must meet the following criteria:
- First Nations and Inuit secondary and post-secondary students aged 18 to 30 inclusive
- Ordinarily resident on reserve or in recognized communities or on community lands
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
- Registered as students during the preceding academic year and who intend to return to studies in the next academic year
Position Requirements: Prior experience working with Microsoft Office suite of programs is an asset. As an employee in the Finance department, this position is subject to accept or handle monies on behalf of SIIT. Therefore, a cleared criminal record check (CRC) is required.
