Nature and Scope

The Administrative Assistant - Summer Student provides administrative functions while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and careful handling of highly confidential and sensitive information. As an employee of SIIT, this position will positively promote and create an environment that demonstrates SIIT's vision, mission and mandate.

General Accountability
The Administrative Assistant - Summer Student will have the opportunity to gain excellent experience while developing the skills necessary to be successful in their future. The summer student will have an opportunity to improve their teamwork and communication skills, as well as, their administrative skills and leadership capabilities. This position includes the following broad range of accountabilities:

Specific Accountabilities

  • Support the transition from paper to electronic filing in HR archives
  • Handle and process documents with confidentiality and compliance while exercising best practice with HR administrative procedures
  • Assist with records management, records destruction and file maintenance - physical and electronic as well as the retention and destruction of documents
  • Provide support to Payroll with filing and scanning of electronic documents, and other projects as needed
  • Perform data entry in our HR tracking data bases
  • Provide excellent client service and back-up coverage and support to Office Administrator as required
  • Assist with special projects and department initiatives

There may be some summer student positions that must meet the following criteria:

  • First Nations and Inuit secondary and post-secondary students aged 15 to 30 inclusive
  • Ordinarily resident on reserve or in recognized communities or on community lands
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Registered as students during the preceding academic year and who intend to return to studies in the next academic year

Position Requirements: Prior experience working with Microsoft Office suite of programs is an asset.
