POSITION: Weekend Cook Saturday/Sunday 11 am - 6 pm

JOB TYPE: 14 hours per week (Internal/External)

COMPENSATION: $25.00

PROGRAM SUMMARY:

Goodacre Place Supportive Housing is a 22 unit supported housing offering long-term tenancies and short-term emergency stays for people who are experiencing homelessness or who are at risk of becoming homeless.Goodacre Place Supportive Housing is developed in partnership with BC Housing, the Town of Smithers and Smithers Community Services Association. Together we provide program participants with affordable housing, meals, case planning, social and recreation activities, and other training and workshops. The units are bachelor style and designed for single occupancy, two are wheelchair accessible.To be considered eligible for supportive housing an individual must be experiencing homelessness or be at risk of becoming homeless.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The cook is responsible for planning and preparing a delicious and nutritious hot meal for 20-30 people. The cook assists with meal service and maintains kitchen cleanliness standards. This is a weekend cook position with the potential for additional hours.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide occupants at Goodacre Place Supportive Housing with 1 hot dinner meal per day, to be served between 4:30 - 5:30 PM unless alternate arrangements have been made.
  • Store, prepare and serve meals in accordance with recognized Food Safe practices.
  • Ensure that the facilities available are adequate for heating, cooling, cooking, refrigerating and freezing food, for storing refrigerated or frozen foods, monitoring food temperature, and when necessary, controlling ambient temperature to ensure the safety and suitability of food.
  • Prevent microbial cross contamination with effective cleaning and appropriate, disinfection.
  • Prepare wholesome, nutritionally balanced meals.
  • Use fresh ingredients as much as possible with a minimum of pre-packed/pre-prepared foods
  • Post dinner menu on board daily.
  • Provide additional meals for guests in addition to those required by the tenants, as requested by SCSA when given adequate notice.
  • Provide extra snacks for special events when requested.
  • Keep the kitchen clean, stocked, and well-organized.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

  • Experience with institutional cooking or cooking for large families.
  • Must have current Food Safe I, training provided.
  • Current Occupational Level 1 First Aid, training provided.

  • Ability to work effectively as a team member.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and respectfully with all people.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional and appropriate relationships with residents and/or their families/representatives.
  • Ability to comply with safe work practices and food safe handling practices.
