The Senior Human Resource (HR) Manager is responsible for overseeing Milestones full cycle HR processes, such as recruitment, onboarding, training, employee engagement, professional development, retention, and departures. They are a trusted strategic partner who takes a proactive approach to align talent strategies with business and organizational objectives.
This is a unique opportunity for an experienced HR professional to build and foster progressive HR practices, as well as impact organizational culture and people initiatives. Milestone is experiencing significant growth, and this opportunity will lead to a more senior role for the right candidate within nine 18 months.
Responsibilities:
General HR
- Develop and execute HR strategies aligned with Milestones goals to attract, retain, and develop top talent.
- Lead the creation, implementation, and communication of HR policies, ensuring legal and quality compliance.
- Oversee workforce planning and development, including talent acquisition strategies.
- Oversee the orientation, onboarding and offboarding of new employees.
- Manage the Human Resource Information System and ensure its functions are meeting the business needs.
- Manage yearly benchmarking exercise, ensuring pay equity across the organization. Using pay bands and performance reviews to make increase recommendations.
- Write and release monthly HR Newsletter.
- Manage the Company Security Program as the Company Security Officer.
- Drive employee engagement through surveys, feedback analysis, and action plans.
- Implement leadership development programs to coach, mentor, and prepare future leaders.
- Prepare, forecast and present HR metrics quarterly with the leadership team.
- Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and regional HR standards.
Employee Relations
- Provide guidance, advice and support to managers on all human resources related matters including retention and recruitment; performance management; employee engagement; training & development; compensation; employee development; harassment issues; creating a respectful workplace; policies and procedures; and applicable government legislation.
- Make recommendations and draw up paperwork for terminations. Attend termination meeting. Engage external legal team on complicated terminations.
Recruitment
- Oversee talent acquisition and full cycle recruitment.
- Work with Indigenous Engagement team on Indigenous recruitment plan.
Benefits and Payroll (Temporary Maternity Leave coverage)
- Manage the company benefits plans. Ensure the policy adheres with CRA requirements and taxable benefits. Conduct ongoing market research.
- Responsible for running payroll for the entire company, including weekly union payroll and biweekly non-union payroll. Keep up to date with provincial legislations and taxable benefit laws. Perform year end close out and employee T4s.
- Manage WorkSafe accounts across the country for payroll premium reporting and payment.
HR Team Management
- Lead the team of HR Administrators and Coordinators.
- Conduct regular one to one check ins with team members.
- Conduct thorough and thoughtful annual reviews.
- Ensure proper training and mentorship for current and new team members.
- Monitor performance against goals to ensure that progress is being made, and that corrective action is taken if necessary.
- Manage time off requests ensuring adequate coverage.
- Lead team through effective performance management to include activities that ensure goals are consistently being met or exceeded. Support team in their professional development and provide growth opportunities through SMART goals.
Qualifications:
Education Requirements:
- CPHR Designation is preferred.
Experience Required:
- 8+ years of progressive and hands on Human Resources and People experience, with a minimum of 2+ years leading People/HR/Talent teams at a national level.
- Strategic thinker able to deliver on tactical and operational issues. This is very hands on role that requires building and developing capabilities in a high growth setting with a high performing team.
- Experience with interpreting collective agreements an asset.
