Job Title: Payroll and Benefits Specialist

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Payroll and Benefits Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in both union and non-union environments, with a proven track record of managing payroll for over 500 employees. The Payroll and Benefits Specialist will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, managing employee benefits, maintaining compliance with federal and provincial regulations, and providing exceptional customer service to employees.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process bi-weekly payroll for 500+ employees, including both hourly and salary wage workers.
- Ensure compliance with all federal and provincial payroll regulations.
- Manage payroll-related inquiries and provide exceptional customer service to employees.
- Handle WCB and union remittances.
- Liaise with benefits provider.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and reports.
- Reconcile payroll accounts and resolve discrepancies.
- Collaborate with HR and Finance teams to ensure accurate employee data.
- Prepare and submit payroll-related reports to government agencies and internal stakeholders.
- Utilize Sage/Intacct payroll system and Bamboo time-tracking for payroll processing and management.
- Stay up-to-date with changes in payroll regulations and best practices.
- Assist with year-end payroll processes, including T4 preparation and distribution.
- Support audits and other compliance activities as needed.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in payroll processing.
- Experience in both union and non-union environments.
- Must be familiar with CBA, implementation of, and updating payroll.
- Experience managing payroll for 500+ employees.
- Must have proficiency in Sage/Intacct payroll system (including Paymate third-party payroll) and BambooHR time-tracking.
- Strong understanding of federal and provincial payroll regulations.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation is an asset.
