Hours: 40 hours/week: 2pm - 10:30pm on Monday, 10am - 6:30pm Tuesday to Friday

Description:

You will be serving and mentoring youth involved in Youth Supported Housing Operations and Resource Education program (YSHORE) and Street Culture at different levels. The successful candidate will offer cultural guidance and support to youth as needed. You will be able to form healthy relationships and be a positive role model with Indigenous youth. The Youth Supported Housing Operations and Resource Education (YSHORE) is designed to offer aid in the search to find suitable long term housing for youth (aged 16-24) and support their growth and development as they transition from homelessness to independence. Homeless youth refers to youth who are staying at the shelter, couch surfing with friends, sleeping rough, or do not have a permanent place to stay. Youth will then be supported in seeking long-term safe housing and will be fully responsible for following the lease and obeying all the guidelines. Case workers will provide continued support to youth living on their own and will meet with youth for 10-15 hours per week. During this time, youth will gain community connections, as well as find places to get a hot meal, clothing or extra support. Youth will be well versed in how to use public transportation and proper hygiene to maintain a clean environment. Youth will also be given support in job search or homework help depending on their individual needs, as well as creating and achieving goals.

The Primary Responsibilities:

  • Focus on offering one-on-one Indigenous cultural support to youth.
  • Positive and trusting relationship development with youth while supporting case management plans created with the youth.
  • Provide individual programming to youth and work with youth to meet individual needs and connect youth to community resources.
  • Create and implement individual programming with Coordinator and complete daily reports on programming experiences and youth progress.
  • Incident Reporting and informing workers where necessary.
  • Provide positive role-modelling, mentoring, and relationship-based programming.
  • Supporting the youth to become involved in education/ employment.
  • Advocating for the youth in the community.
  • Support the youth on a daily basis toward meeting the short, medium and long term goals agreed to in the Action Plan and/or Community Safety plan.
  • Support youth to meet appointments and be involved in the community.
  • Implement opportunities for community connection, educational learning, recreational outings, skills development, & healthy lifestyles.
  • Other tasks as assigned: e.g. supporting Street Culture social entrepreneurial initiatives.

Qualifications & Skill Sets:

  • Human services degree/diploma/certifications
  • Previous experience working with youth
  • Conflict resolution training, current CPR/First Aid certification, ASIST Suicide Intervention Training
  • Strong interpersonal skills & positive youth role-model
  • Valid class 5 drivers license

  • Experience with landlords and living independently

  • Developing the design and delivery of life skills programming
