The City of Brooks Utility Services Department has an opening for one (1) Water and Wastewater Technician Practicum Student position. Employees in this classification will normally work under supervision but may work independently as assigned.

Job Details & Responsibilities:

As the Water and Wastewater Technician Practicum Student, you will assist Operators in the day to day operations, maintenance and repair of the Wastewater System, Wastewater Collection and Wastewater Treatment, Irrigation and Storm Water System. This will include but limited to: ensuring proper repair and maintenance of the Water Distribution, Wastewater Collection and Wastewater Treatment facility in compliance with Alberta Environmental, Canada Environment and City of Brooks regulated practices, monitoring and testing of water distribution, irrigation, wastewater and stormwater systems, and maintaining facilities, equipment and grounds according to approved standards and procedures.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Candidates must have their first (1) yearWater and Wastewater Technician term and be eligible with NAIT;
  • You must possess a Class 5 Operators License;
  • Experience and/or a demonstrated interest in the operation of water and wastewater facilities and associated functions is an asset;
  • You must have the ability to understand the chemical and mechanical processes involved in water distribution, wastewater and stormwater collection and wastewater treatment, and must have the ability to operate computer systems related to water and wastewater operations; and
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Compensation & Benefits:

The 2025 salary range for this position is $31.62 per hour. This is a temporary four (4) month position with typical working hours of Monday to Friday, from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. The successful candidate may also be required to work shift work.

Additionally, you will receive a free membership to the JBS Canada Centre during your term of employment.A clean criminal record check and driver abstract will be required before an offer of employment is presented to the successful applicant.
