Salary:

The Civil Construction Estimator plays a pivotal role in ensuring the success of civil construction projects by providing well-informed, comprehensive, and competitive cost estimates. The primary responsibility of this role is to analyze project requirements, assess costs, and create detailed cost estimates for materials, labour, equipment, and other resources necessary to complete construction projects successfully. The estimator collaborates with various teams, including project managers, engineers, contractors, and vendors, to ensure the accuracy and competitiveness of the estimates. Their expertise and attention to detail are critical in helping construction companies make informed decisions and secure successful bids.This position reports to the Senior Project Manager.

Location and Hours:

This role will be based out of our headquarters office located at 1600A Theatre Road, Cranbrook, B.C. This position will involve going out to the jobsites and there may be occasion (s) where overtime may be required, but is not expected to make up a major component of the role.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Project Assessment

  • Review project plans, specifications, and other relevant documentation to understand the scope and requirements of the construction project.
  • Visit project sites to assess site conditions, potential challenges, and gather critical information for accurate estimation.

Construction Estimating

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for civil construction projects, including infrastructure, roads, bridges, buildings, and other structures.
  • Analyze and quantify the quantities of materials, labour hours, and equipment needed for each project phase.
  • Obtain and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations to incorporate into the overall cost estimation.

Data Analysis

  • Utilize historical cost data, industry benchmarks, and market trends to support the accuracy of cost estimations.
  • Perform cost comparisons to evaluate the most cost-effective approaches and materials.

Documentation

  • Prepare comprehensive and detailed estimate reports, outlining the breakdown of costs, assumptions, and potential risks.
  • Maintain organized records of estimation data for future reference and analysis.

Value Engineering

  • Provide value engineering suggestions to optimize project costs without compromising quality or safety.

Bid Preparation

  • Assist in the preparation of winning bid proposals by compiling and presenting estimation data and analysis.

Risk Assessment

  • Identify potential risks and uncertainties in the estimation process and highlight them to relevant stakeholders.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field and/or proven experience as a Civil Construction Estimator or similar role in the construction industry.
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering principles and construction practices.
  • Proficiency in construction estimation software and tools.
  • Excellent analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in estimation.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with diverse teams.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Problem solver with a can-do attitude and a commitment to continuous improvement
  • Must possess a valid and clean Class 5 Drivers Licence
  • Flexibility to travel to Project locations
  • Flexibility with work schedule
