The Riders are currently scouting for a motivated individual to assist our Communications Team!
This role is perfect for those looking to gain unique experience in the Sports & Entertainment Industry, specifically in communications and media relations.
Reporting to the Director, Communications, the Communications Intern will assist with all Club business and football operations related communications activities including written press releases, player biographies, stats and game notes for the media for all Rider games; co-ordinate game day activities including press box and broadcaster needs and post-game interviews; and prepare coaches/player for interviews and appearances with the media including on practice days and in the community. The position will assist writing copy and for all team publications and the Riderville website and helps manage relationships with media partners that provide a series of regular promotional programs providing coverage to team events during the football season.
Requirements
Where will your talents be focused?
- Develop positive working relationships with local and national media to ensure accuracy or reporting organizational events.
- Monitor activities of football operations personnel at daily practices and Club sponsored events to ensure messaging and player/coaching profiles match the Club's desired public image and coaches' players on the needs of the media and local community.
- Assist with media related game day activities including press box set-up, contact with the host broadcasters to ensure their needs are met within the context of their broadcasting agreement.
- Assist with all player/coaching staff media interviews; accompanies players to interviews when required and monitors interview content for accuracy and appropriateness of any commentary provided.
- Assist with the preparation, organization and publishing of the content on the Riderville website.
- Respond to fan mail/phone calls and various customer problems and game day issues with a focus on problem resolution within pre-approved authority limits.
- Assist in the support of Rider programs and events as assigned, which may include evenings and weekends.
- Assist with the video editing and posting of daily media availabilities to the Riderville website.
- Miscellaneous duties as assigned.
What is needed to be successful in this role?
- Enrolment in or completion of post-secondary studies in business, administration, sports management, journalism, or communications.
- Proven skill in juggling multiple priorities and attention to detail in a fast-paced work environment with shifting priorities.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Ability to work alone and in a team.
- Familiarity with video editing software, photoshop, and WordPress would be considered an asset.
- Must be physically able to meet demands of field work and general office duties.
- Ability to work longer hours during the season, especially game days which are crucial for availability.
- Confidentiality is a must and is an expectation from all employees.
Please note: Training Camp will run from approximately May 5th-25th. This role would be required to be in attendance for that entire period. Accommodations for training camp will be provided if it is held outside Regina. The successful candidate must also have the ability to travel when required throughout the football season.
