Facilities & Field Support Technician

We are currently seeking a Facilities & Field Support Technician to join our Ottawa based team with regular travel to our testing locations in the United States!
What will you be doing?
Field Logistics Support:
- Coordinate and manage the logistics of field operations, including transportation, equipment, tools, and supplies;
- Ensure the availability of necessary resources at field locations, including spare parts, consumables, and safety equipment;
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan and execute field test activities, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements;
- Conduct inventory management and maintain accurate records of equipment and supplies;
- Troubleshoot and resolve logistics-related issues that may arise during field operations.
- Travel to Test and Customer Sites - 25% travel is anticipated.
Fabrication:
- Perform metal fabrication tasks such as cutting, bending, welding, and machining to produce metal components and structures;
- Perform wood fabrication tasks to build parachute payloads.
- Operate metal fabrication machinery and tools, including but not limited to shears, press brakes, welding equipment etc;
- Ensure the adherence to quality standards and specifications during the fabrication process;
- Collaborate with design and engineering teams to provide input on fabrication feasibility and optimization.
- Assist with rigging of parachute test loads.
Heavy Equipment Operation:
- Operate heavy machinery and equipment such as forklifts, telehandlers and to support field operations and production activities;
- Safely and efficiently maneuver and transport materials, equipment, and components as required;
- Conduct routine inspections and maintenance checks on heavy equipment to ensure proper functionality and report any issues or malfunctions.
- Work around aircraft safely and effectively while operating heavy equipment, ensuring the safety of yourself and others in the vicinity.
Facilities Support:
- When not preparing for or travelling to support field testing activities you will be based in MMIST's Ottawa facility and assist with the day to day operations of the manufacturing site.
- Liaising with outside contracts, plumbers, electricians etc
- Assist with shipping and receiving
- Conduct regular inspections of facilities to identify maintenance needs and safety hazards.
- Perform repairs and maintenance on equipment, including welding and fabrication tasks as required.
What do we need from you?
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certifications or relevant vocational training is a plus;
- Proven experience in metal fabrication and or carpentry with strong proficiency in using various hand tools and equipment;
- Experience interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to fabricate parts accurately;
- Experience of equipment operation such as forklifts and telehandlers;
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues effectively;
- Ability to travel nationally and international (mainly US) up to 25%
