Job Summary

As the Electrical Engineer at Kuby Renewable Energy, you will take on a role that blends technical analysis and strategic and business development, working with our CTO and principal electrical engineer. You will play a vital part in the design, analysis, and construction of structures supporting solar power systems, while also shaping the future direction of our Engineering Department.

Working closely with our multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for designing systems, performing calculations and analysis, preparing construction drawings and specifications, and ensuring compliance with relevant codes and regulations. In addition to technical responsibilities, this role will influence the strategy and growth of the Engineering Department.

Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical analysis and design for a wide range of residential and commercial solar and battery energy storage system projects.
  • Prepare, review, and evaluate construction drawings, single line diagrams, specifications, and reports in accordance with project requirements and industry standards and authenticate/validate as required.
  • Perform voltage drop analysis, protection studies, cable sizing analysis, short circuit studies, grounding studies, and other related engineering duties to facilitate construction and interconnection processes.
  • Utilize various software and tools to model and analyze various electrical characteristics and properties.
  • Collaborate with architects, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure coordination and integration of structural designs.
  • Provide oversight, technical guidance, and mentorship to junior engineers, EITs and drafters.
  • Conduct site visits and inspections to assess construction progress and address any concerns.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, advancements, and relevant codes and regulations.
  • Collaborate with project teams to ensure timely and accurate completion of deliverables.
  • Oversee and improve QA/QC processes for electrical drawings
  • Participate in project meetings, providing technical expertise and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with the Design, Sales and Marketing departments to develop business for the Electrical Engineering Department.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PEng.) license in Alberta under APEGA is required. License in BC & Ontario is an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical engineering. Experience with solar systems and/or battery energy storage systems is an asset.
  • Experience working with an EPC.
  • Extensive knowledge of relevant codes and standards (e.g., Canadian Electrical Code 2024, etc.).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to perform complex calculations and simulations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey technical information.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality designs.
  • Team management/mentorship/leadership
