Huronia Transition Homes is non-profit organization working to end all violence against all women. We operate 4 primary programs, including La Maison Rosewood Shelter, a woman-centered organization that provides support to women who are fleeing violence, or are experiencing homelessness. We are committed to providing services within an intersectional feminist and harm reduction integrated environment.

Huronia Transition Homes is currently hiring a Director of Finance. In the position, the Director of Finance will report to the Executive Director and will be a member of the senior leadership team and is responsible for managing the overall financial operations of the organization; and also providing accurate and timely information to the Executive Director, advice and guidance on all accounting matters, including financial systems, record keeping, and analysis and reporting. The Director of Finance will oversee the day-to-day operations of the organization's financials, including corporate accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, A/P, A/R and payroll, as well as the development of internal control policies and procedures, including financial risk management.

Key Responsibilities:

Finance Management and Accounting

  • Oversee all accounting operations, including payroll, billing, general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, and cost accounting.
  • Manage and prepare organizational budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and variance analysis.
  • Coordinate the financial aspects of the organizations social enterprise.
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and reporting, adhering to organizational policies and best practices.
  • Drive the month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Review and revise organizational accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance and financial best practices.
  • Provide recommendations to improve financial management and internal controls.

Financial Planning and Strategy

  • Support decision-making through financial forecasting and long-term planning.
  • Implement the financial elements of the organizations strategic plan.
  • Develop and maintain financial infrastructure for the organizations social enterprise.
  • Identify growth opportunities, especially within the social enterprise.
  • Create Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure business outcomes and processes in collaboration with the Executive Director.
  • Advise the Executive Director and senior leadership team on financial matters.

Risk and Compliance Management

  • Assess and manage financial risks, making recommendations to mitigate liabilities.
  • Lead the annual audit process, liaising with auditors and preparing necessary materials.
  • Ensure timely filing of all regulatory financial and corporate reports.
  • Oversee organizational insurance policies and manage relationships with external stakeholders, such as auditors and financial institutions.

Leadership

  • Uphold the organizations vision and values in all financial matters.
  • Provide financial training to staff and Board members to ensure understanding of fiscal responsibilities.
  • Educate and engage the Executive Director and senior leadership team in financial matters.
  • Assist in other duties and responsibilities as requested by the Executive Director.

Financial Relationships and Stakeholder Management

  • Liaise with the organizations investment portfolio manager.
  • Prepare financial reports for external stakeholders, including donors and funders.
  • Oversee the financial aspects of capital and fundraising campaigns.
  • Participate in Finance Committee meetings and other relevant Board committees.

The successful candidate must possess:

  • Accounting Designation with 10+ years of progressive experience in medium-sized organizations, preferably non-profits
  • MPA or MBA in Finance, Accounting or relevant field preferred.
  • Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods
  • Hands-on experience with accounting and financial management software (e.g. SAGE)
  • Familiarity with the Ontario Non-Profit Corporations Act
  • Expertise in MS Excel and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Analytical skills
  • Familiarity with the way nonprofit organizations are structured
  • Genuine interest in our mission
  • Must display interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and written.
