Responsibilities/Assignment Deliverables:
Key deliverables to be performed by the Systems Testing/QA Specialist include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Support the end-to-end testing strategy to ensure the business requirements are met and the system performs as expected without impact to current business processing;
- Analyze business requirements documentation including use cases and non-functional requirements;
- Create test strategies and test suites, including test plans, cases and summary reports;
- Analyze test data requirements and create appropriate test data to support the test cases;
- Execute system and user acceptance tests adhering to OPS standards;
- Verify actual results meet expected results;
- Examine test databases using database access tools; e.g., SQL. Analyze and log test results;
- Document and monitor resolution of system variances using an automated problem management system;
- Provide recommendations to the Project Lead / Sr. Project Manager as to the acceptance or rejection of any new or changed system components;
- Provide weekly project status report that reflects progress on tasks, changes based on approved change orders, issues/risks that require management attention and planned activities for the next period;
- Use the Cluster tool for internal defect quality management and follow up on defects;
- Plan and execute system iteration and regression tests;
- Develop presentations for various audiences, as required;
- Work with the business and IT areas to complete any activities required to accomplish above and other deliverables as required during the assignment;
- Strong experience with testing in a Data Warehouse environment; Strong experience with testing BI applications (e.g. Cognos), running standard reports, creating ad hoc queries, etc.;
- Strong experience with applications using ETL (e.g., Informatica) and testing for accurate transformations from source to target;
Other Experience and Skills:
The Systems Testing/QA Specialist must have the following skills and experience:
- Demonstrated analytical problem solving and decision-making capabilities;
- Demonstrated experience with Test Automation tool in particular Quick Test pro v10.0,
- HPQC/HPALM and TFS together to document, track, and record testing processes; Extensive experience in writing test scripts, test cases and test scenarios, testing web applications and reporting defects;
- Proficiency with desktop tools (Visio, MS Office, MS Project, MS Outlook);
- Strong technical skills in SQL, Databases, and XML;
- Demonstrated working experience in dealing with multiple teams representing various areas in delivering the project;
- Demonstrated understanding of AODA
- Demonstrated working experience testing for WCAB compliance in web applications, experience using screen reader (JAWS) for testing and HiSoftware Compliance Sheriff Tool.
- Demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively with client organizations;
- A team player with a track record for meeting strict deadlines; and
- Demonstrated working experience in an agile and waterfall environment Demonstrated experience producing deliverables on time and on schedule Knowledge of methodologies, processes and standards:
Based on the scope, the Systems Testing/QA Specialist must be proficient in:
- Desktop tools (Visio, MS Office, MS Project, MS Outlook);
- Proficient with different types of software testing and testing methodologies; and Proficient in manual and automated testing.
Requirements
Experience and Skill Set Requirements:
Must Haves:
- Experience in testing large volume online data collection applications used by 5000+ internal and external end users on multiple areas
- Test Automation tools scripting experience – eg Quick Test pro v10.0/UFT, HP Quality Center(HPQC), Azure DevOps
- Data warehouse, data marts, ETL processes and BI solutions testing experience (e.g., Cognos, Microsoft Power BI, Informatica)
- Experience using SQL scripting for testing environments built on 3/N-tier web applications using Oracle and/ or SQL Server DBs;
- Demonstrated AODA testing experience with full WCAG AA compliance in-web applications, screen readers experience (eg Jaws, NVDA)
Skill Set Requirements:
Core Skills:
- Experience supporting a framework that enables the quick development and deployment of customized online data collection applications used by 5000+ end users within the broader public sector to report on policy, program, achievement, and financial data.
- Experience in testing accessible web applications compliance level WCAG level AA, preferable and reporting defects, preferable experience using screen reader (Jaws) for testing and Compliance Sherriff tool.
- Experience in testing environments built on 3/N-tier web applications using Oracle and/ or SQL Server DBs.
- Experience developing all test material - test cases, test scripts, test data, defects, status reports, etc.
- Demonstrated experience with Test Automation tool in particular Unified Functional Testing (UFT), HP quality Center.
- Demonstrated experience with both manual and automated testing.
- Experience with regression testing.
- Experience with System Integration and User Acceptance Testing cycles.
- Experience with the use of various testing tools, for example Azure DevOps, HP Quality Center (HPQC) and Bugzilla.
- Experience planning test cycles and strategies and related documentation.
- Experience using SQL for testing; Demonstrated experience executing testing as part of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including experience testing through all of the Software Testing Life Cycle phases.
- Demonstrated experience working in an agile and waterfall environment.
- Demonstrated experience working as part of a team.
- Demonstrated experience problem solving and decision making.
Business Intelligence and Data Warehouse Testing Experience:
- Demonstrated an in-depth understanding of data warehousing concepts, architecture, and best practices.
- Experience in testing BI solutions like Cognos and Power BI
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with developing and optimizing ETL processes.
- Experience with tools such as Informatica or SSIS.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency with desktop tools (Visio, MS Office, MS Project, MS Outlook).
- Strong technical skills in SQL, Databases, XML.
- Demonstrated experience profiling and testing data stored within Databases, XML, CSV, JSON, and Excel files.
- Demonstrated experience analyzing and testing data warehouses, data marts, and data extracts.
- Demonstrated experience developing and testing presentation layer and business intelligence reports.
- Knowledge and experience with .NET framework (4.0+), ASP.NET testing, MVC, Entity framework, business entities, WCF, WFF, MS Dynamics, and LINQ, preferable experience in implementing projects tracking solutions with Workflow engine + accessibility.
- ASP.NET testing with C#, Web forms, jscript for multi-browser support CSS with full WCAB AA compliance in web applications, preferable experience using screen reader (JAWS) for testing and High Compliance Sherriff tool.
Communication Skills:

Public Sector Experience:
- Experience working within the Public Sector, particularly within the education ministries, would be an asset.
