Job Title: Procurement Lead
Reporting directly to Skeena's VP of Construction and Engineering, the Procurement Lead will oversee all procurement activities during the construction phase of the Eskay Creek project and beyond. This role involves managing the sourcing, purchasing, and delivery of materials, equipment, and services critical to the construction of the Eskay Creek mine. The successful candidate will ensure that procurement activities align with project timelines, budgets, quality standards, and regulatory requirements while maintaining strong relationships with vendors and suppliers. Strong relationships and regular communication are also required with multi-disciplinary teams at site and at the Vancouver Corporate Office.
Key Responsibilities:
• Procurement Strategy and Planning:
o Develop and implement procurement strategies for construction phase materials, equipment, and services, ensuring alignment with project timelines, budgets, and quality requirements.
o Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to understand project needs and identify cost-effective procurement solutions.
• Supplier Management:
o Identify and qualify suppliers of materials, equipment, and services for construction, focusing on quality, cost, and reliability.
o Negotiate contracts and terms with suppliers, ensuring favorable terms for the project and compliance with industry standards.
o Maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and vendors, ensuring timely delivery and problem resolution as needed.
• Procurement Execution:
o Manage the entire procurement lifecycle, including issuing RFQs (Requests for Quotation), conducting bid analysis, negotiating contracts, and issuing purchase orders.
o Ensure all materials and equipment are procured within budget and delivered on time to meet construction milestones.
o Track procurement progress and report on key metrics (e.g., costs, delivery timelines, quality issues).
• Compliance and Risk Management:
o Ensure all procurement activities comply with local, provincial, and federal regulations, including environmental and safety standards specific to the mining industry.
o Identify and mitigate procurement-related risks, such as supply chain disruptions, material shortages, or vendor performance issues.
• Budget and Cost Control:
o Monitor and control procurement-related expenditures, ensuring cost optimization while meeting quality and schedule requirements.
o Prepare and present regular budget updates and cost forecasts to project leadership.
• Team Leadership and Collaboration:
o Lead and mentor a small team of procurement professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
o Collaborate with project managers, engineers, construction teams, and other departments to ensure seamless procurement coordination across the project.
• Continuous Improvement:
o Identify opportunities to improve procurement processes, streamline workflows, and introduce innovative procurement practices that enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in procurement, with at least 3 years in a leadership role in a construction or mining environment.
• Proven experience in procurement for large-scale construction projects, preferably in the mining or energy sector.
• Strong negotiation skills and experience in contract management.
• Knowledge of Canadian procurement regulations, industry standards, and supply chain management best practices.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on cost management and risk mitigation.
• Proficiency with procurement software, ERP systems, and MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.).
Work Location & Conditions
This is an office-based job, in Skeena's Corporate office located in Vancouver, British Columbia or Smithers, British Columbia on a Monday to Friday schedule. Additionally, the job is in a fast paced, and at times stressful working environment, with having to manage multiple competing priorities. Some flexibility in work location may be considered.
