Job Description

To support the on-going operation of the Recreation and Culture department, the County of Grande Prairie is seeking a Park Host(s) for our Pipestone Creek Campground which is located 16 kilometers south of Wembley, near one of the richest areas for dinosaur fossils in western Canada, and the largest site in the world for Pachyrhinosaurus fossils.

The Park Host(s) will be responsible for all day use and campground maintenance, and therefore must enjoy working outdoors, and interacting with the public daily. The Park Host must reside on site year-round in a County provided home. An individual or couple could fill the position.

Park Host duties will include, but are not limited to:

• Being an ambassador for the County of Grande Prairie, welcoming guests and visitors to the campground and day use areas, maintaining a family-oriented atmosphere and handling customer inquiries and requests.
• Operations, maintenance and cleaning of campground and day use areas including the buildings, roadways, trails, greenspaces (mowing & trimming), picnic sites, campsites, outhouses, shower block and playgrounds.
• Being a steward of the land, liaising with park stakeholders as required and educating guests on behavioral guidelines.
• Managing daily public access including opening and closing park gates at the start and end of the day - seven days a week during summer season (May 15 - Oct 15) and on weekends during the winter season (Oct 16 - May 14).
• Working with service contractors to ensure park operating systems are working efficiently
• Managing the campground guest traffic using the County reservation system to ensure smooth campground customer arrival and departures, and keeping a satisfactory record of the activity

Qualifications

• Exceptional customer relations and communication skills
• An enjoyment of working outside, and the ability to organize a demanding workload
• Ability to use discretion and good judgement while working with minimal supervision
• Ability to educate guests on park rules and diffuse difficult situations as required
• Confidence to work with minimal supervision daily, yet team orientated to meet department goals
• Ability to perform hard physical labour
• Previous experience operating ride on mower, trimmer, brush cutter or turf management
• Ability to perform minor repairs and maintenance on buildings, furniture, and fixtures
• Competency in computer use including MS office
• Proof of clean criminal record and vulnerable persons background check
• A class 5 driver's license and an acceptable drivers abstract

Additional Information

County provided housing benefit (accommodation and utilities) on site. Strictly no phone calls to Pipestone Creek Campground all recruitment is being handled by the County of Grande Prairie.

This is a one-year term position with a possibility of renewal.

Annual Salary: $64,800 to $77,176
