Do you thrive on nurturing growth and seeing the fruits of your labor flourish? Are you passionate about trees and fostering sustainable forestry practices?
At PRT, we're seeking a dedicated Crop Advisor to join our passionate team of tree-loving environmental enthusiasts. If you're a seasoned horticulturist, agronomist or grower, with a knack for coaching and a deep understanding of the science of crop production, we want to hear from you!
In this role, you'll be a vital part of our Crop Support Team, acting as a mentor, trainer, and advisor to our nursery growers across the Western regions of Canada and USA. You'll play a key role in ensuring the health, quality, and productivity of our seedlings, contributing directly to the success of growing high-quality seedlings for our customers.
This position requires a deep understanding of plant science, crop production, and nursery management, along with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
The ideal candidate will be based within driving distance of any PRT Nursery and be comfortable with 50% travel to our nursery sites. You'll work alongside Greenhouse Automated Controls Specialists, other Crop Advisors and nursery staff who are based across our operating regions.
Location: Ideally this role is based at one of our interior BC PRT sites.
Here's a glimpse into your day-to-day:
- Morning: Start your day connecting with a nursery team via video conference, discussing their upcoming crop plan and addressing any challenges they may be facing.
- Mid-day: Head out into the field at your local nursery, conducting a "crop walk" to assess tree health, identify potential issues, and offer your expert guidance.
- Afternoon: Dedicate time to developing engaging training materials that empower our growers with the knowledge and skills to cultivate top-quality trees.
- Throughout the day: Collaborate with colleagues at other nurseries, sharing best practices and innovative techniques to optimize crop production across PRT.
- End of day: Analyze data from a recent crop trial, identifying key learnings to improve our processes and drive future success.
WHO YOU ARE:
We envision you as a passionate tree enthusiast with a deep commitment to sustainable forestry! You have a minimum of 10 years of experience in crop production and a strong understanding of the science behind successful crop production, their growth cycles, their challenges as well as risk mitigation for commercial crops. With at least 3 years of experience as a crop advisor, you're a natural leader and mentor, able to influence, guide and empower growers to optimize yield and efficiency. You have a keen eye for detail, and your passion for plants drives you to continuously learn and improve.
