As our new Lead Hand you will be responsible for project execution, assistant leadership, quality workmanship and short-term planning.

If you were working for us, here are some of the things you would have done last week:

  • Assist crew leader with periodic supervision, delegation, coordination, and execution of day to day work activities of a small crew of 2-3 people, at times independently
  • Assist crew leader in the management of safety, quality and productivity of work at sites and/or shop/yard
  • Edging, spring cleanup of gardens, and mulching
  • Ongoing garden management, weeding, and plant care
  • Fall cleanup of gardens and turf and winterization
  • Seasonal and specialized pruning and transplanting
  • Fertilizing and pest management
  • Seasonal colour (annuals and container plantings)
  • Irrigation and lighting maintenance services
  • New plantings and garden expansion
  • Improvements such as patio repair, cleaning or drainage
  • Operate various tools and equipment, including compact equipment, chainsaws, blowers, trimmers, pruners, wheelbarrows, measurement equipment, shovels, rakes, horticultural implements, etc.
  • Operation of heavy equipment, including yard loader
  • Operation of crew truck and trailer
  • Read and interpret landscape designs and specifications to complete work activities
  • Mathematics, site calculations and material quantity take-offs
  • Complete quality assessments of completed services and property inspections
  • Maintain standards of cleanliness and organization in assigned trucks, trailers, equipment, jobsites, and shop/yard areas
  • Perform preventative maintenance on tools and equipment by conducting inspections, lubricating, and cleaning

The Details

This is a full-time, seasonal job, working at job sites across the Bruce Peninsula, from Tobermory to Lions Head, Wiarton, Port Elgin, Sauble Beach, Georgian Bluffs, Meaford and Markdale. Outside of the Property Care season, there are opportunities to join our Snow department.

Qualifications

We are considering candidates from a wide range of experiences and backgrounds. Ideally, heres what were looking for:

  • 3 years of gardening experience
  • Interpersonal and communication skills
  • Detail-oriented, organized and can lead others
  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced, team environment
  • Ability to complete physically demanding work inhot, cold and wet weather
  • Experience reading landscape designs and instructions
  • Strong in plant ID and care, including pruning, and cultural care
  • Skilled with manual and power garden tools
  • Valid drivers license

And if you have the following it would be a bonus:

  • Horticulture diploma or certificate
