WHAT WILL YOU DO

The Sr. Forest Technician is responsible for forest development activities including reconnaissance, road/cutblock engineering, ecological and riparian assessments, and completing the associated plans and reports in a safe, timely, cost effective and professional manner.

RESPONSIBLITIES

  • Key specialist member of the forest development team.
  • Contribute expertise within our project teams, spanning small cutting permit-based projects to large integrated multi-phase development or woodlands management programs.
  • Support the completion of cruise compilations and interior timber appraisals.
  • Manage and ensure compliance and consistency with stewardship requirements for forest development in B.C. as driven by FRPA and relevant Forest Stewardship plans, including the coordination of assessments and completion of referrals.
  • Provide expertise and support for forest development planning and operations.
  • Operation of off-road vehicles including 4x4 trucks, ATVs and snowmobiles.

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Broad understanding of, and experience in, general forestry practices and operational forest planning;
  • A safety conscious attitude and approach to daily work habits;
  • Post-secondary education with a degree or diploma in forestry or a related field;
  • Registration with the FPBC (or eligible for registration) as a professional forester (RPF) or forest technologist (RFT);
  • A minimum of 3 years experience in multiphase timber development project management;
  • A strong understanding of the forest legislation, regulation and policy impacting forest planning and management in British Columbia;
  • Valid driver's license with a clean abstract;
  • Enthusiastic and passionate about forestry and working outdoors in all weather conditions;
  • Able to work both independently under limited direct supervision as well as in a dynamic team environment.
