Work Description
Taggart Realty Management (TRM), a leader in full-service property management, is seeking an Accountant to join our team in downtown Ottawa. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the full cycle accounting process for a number of properties, in addition to monthly, quarterly and year end financial reporting and analysis. The performance of the duties must ensure a quality approach to all employees, customers, managers, suppliers, and financial institutions. All responsibilities must be performed in a manner consistent with the Taggart Realty Management vision, mission, and must comply with all company policies and procedures.
Job Description
Responsible for the full-cycle accounting of multiple properties
Coordinate along with the accounts receivable clerk to process billing and collection transactions and reporting activities according to specific deadlines and policies
Coordinate along with the accounts payable clerk to process cheques, invoices and cheque requisitions in accordance with specific deadlines and policies
Maintain and reconcile accounts payable supplier files
Prepare monthly accounting and reporting tasks for numerous properties such as bank reconciliations, HST remittances and management fee calculations
Managing the setup of new contractors, suppliers, property profiles, and tenants in the accounting system to ensure accurate tracking of their respective details
Ensure accurate and timely month end close and all reporting deadlines are met
Responsible for preparing and issuing monthly financial statements to stakeholders
Compile and analyze financial information to prepare financial statements including monthly, quarterly, and annual reports
Prepare variance analyses for quarterly and annual financial statements for management
Build and maintain supporting Microsoft Excel schedules to support quarterly and annual financial statement preparation
Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with accepted policies and procedures
Support TRM operations requests by providing financial information to the Operations, Leasing and Asset Management teams upon request
Support the finance team in the handling of external service providers such as insurers, lenders, auditors, and other key stakeholders in the year end process
Assist in the preparation of the CAM (Common Area Maintenance) reconciliation for properties, ensuring accurate allocation of expenses to tenants and resolving discrepancies
Perform related clerical duties, such as word processing, maintaining filing and record systems, and photocopying
Manage multiple projects concurrently
Performs other duties as required.
Statement of Qualifications
Post-secondary degree in accounting
Minimum of 5 years experience in financial accounting
Experience in Property Accounting
Proficient in Microsoft Office suite- Intermediate level MS Excel skills are required for this role.
Demonstrated initiative, detail oriented with a strong work ethic
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Ability to multi-task while meeting time sensitive deadlines
Experience with Yardi accounting system is an asset.

Sitting or standing for long periods of time at workstation
