Who You Are

Mikisew Cree First Nation is currently seeking Shop Hand. As a Shop Hand, you will assist with the day-to-day operations, providing support and ensuring the smooth running of the work environment. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to gain hands-on experience in a technical services setting.

This position is based in Fort Chipewyan, AB

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Ensure tools, machinery, and equipment are organized, clean, and properly maintained. Assist in regular inspections and upkeep to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Monitor inventory levels of parts, tools, and supplies. Assist with restocking, organizing, and maintaining accurate records of incoming and outgoing items.
  • Keep the shop organized and tidy by regularly cleaning workstations, tools, and common areas. Ensure the workspace remains safe and free of clutter.
  • Help with receiving and inspecting shipments of parts and materials. Package and ship items as needed, ensuring all orders are processed efficiently.
  • Assist in labeling, filing, and organizing work orders, parts, and service records. Help track job progress and maintain accurate job documentation.
  • Offer assistance to customers as needed, ensuring they are directed to the right technician or department for further assistance.
  • Follow established safety protocols and report any safety hazards. Ensure compliance with all safety procedures, including the proper handling of tools and equipment.
  • Provide general support with other tasks, such as assembling products, checking parts for defects, and helping prepare work areas for upcoming jobs.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a workshop, manufacturing, or technical services setting is preferred but not mandatory. Willingness to learn on the job is essential.
  • Basic knowledge of hand tools, machinery, and workshop equipment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks independently or as part of a team.
  • Reliable, punctual, and dependable with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
  • Possess a valid Class 5 AB drivers license and own or access to a vehicle.
  • Willingness and ability to work after hours and/or weekends when required.
  • Willingness to submit to an oath of confidentiality.
  • Willing to work flexible schedule.
  • Ability to speak and/or understand the Cree language (or another applicable First Nation language) would be beneficial.
