THE ROLE

STRIVE have partnered with a fantastic local food manufacturer known for developing quality products for large, national and international supermarket and wholesale chains. The client is seeking a talented and detail-oriented Accounting Manager to join the team. Reporting to the VP, Finance, the Accounting Manager will oversee key accounting operations, including financial reporting, month-end processes, payroll, inventory management, and year-end preparations.

The ideal Accounting Manager candidate will bring strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and a solutions-driven mindset to ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across financial operations. To succeed in this role, the right candidate will need solid experience in accounting leadership and exceptional analytical and organizational abilities. A proactive and collaborative attitude is essential to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Prepare monthly commission reports and statements, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.

- Supervise and coordinate the month-end process, including final preparation of reports for senior management review.

- Oversee GST filing processes and ensure timely remittances.

- Handle WCB reporting requirements and perform year-end reconciliations.

- Manage spend accruals for branded product programs in collaboration with our broker.

- Supervise the AR team, focusing on vendor payment recording, deduction management, and reviewing customer deductions with the team.

- Work with the AP Supervisor to ensure accurate recording and proper management of payables.

- Coordinate inventory counts and cycle counts with the Purchaser, evaluate discrepancies, and drive process improvements in inventory handling.

- Supervise hourly payroll processing and employee benefits administration in partnership with the Payroll Specialist.

- Maintain the assets registry throughout the year, preparing for year-end requirements.

- Prepare year-end working files for internal review and final submission to the external accounting firm.

- Assist the VP of Finance with costing exercises for new products or special projects.

Preferred Experience (Nice-to-Have)

- Experience in demand planning or production scheduling to support production operations.

- Familiarity with Canadas IREP program or chicken quotas would be an asset, with the opportunity to grow into this area of responsibility.

QUALIFICATIONS

- CPA designation or working towards CPA preferred but not required

- 5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership or managerial role.

- Strong understanding of Canadian payroll, GST filings, and WCB requirements.

- Proficiency in inventory management and reconciliation.

- Advanced skills in Excel and experience with accounting software.

- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively across teams.
