As the Executive Chef, you are the visionary and leader of Brentwood Bay Resorts culinary team. Your role is pivotal in shaping the guest experience by crafting menus that are innovative, consistent, and unforgettable. You inspire and mentor a talented kitchen team, instilling a culture of excellence, collaboration, and pride. Through strategic leadership and operational expertise, you ensure the smooth running of the kitchen while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and financial performance.
A day in the life
Inspiring and Leading the Team
- Lead a passionate culinary team, fostering an environment where creativity, collaboration, and excellence thrive.
- Serve as a mentor and coach, providing constructive feedback, recognizing achievements, and empowering team members.
- Host regular kitchen meetings to align on goals, address challenges, and ensure the team feels connected to the Resorts vision.
- Build a culture of inclusivity and respect, where every team member feels valued for their contributions.
- Take an active role in hiring, onboarding, and retaining top culinary talent, ensuring a strong team foundation.
Driving Culinary Operations and Innovation
- Manage all aspects of daily kitchen operations, overseeing food preparation and service to ensure smooth and efficient workflows across both the Pub and Arbutus Room lines.
- Craft and execute menus that balance innovation with operational feasibility, leveraging local and seasonal ingredients.
- Collaborate closely with the Director of Food and Beverage and Group Sales and Events Manager to align culinary offerings with guest expectations and event needs.
- Develop strategies to minimize waste and optimize food costs, ensuring financial goals are met without compromising quality.
- Monitor inventory, equipment maintenance, and kitchen cleanliness, ensuring compliance with safety and sanitation standards.
- Manage scheduling and labour costs, ensuring adequate coverage while optimizing workforce productivity without compromising service quality.
- Step into hands-on roles when needed, leading by example during high-pressure service periods or special events.
Elevating the Guest Experience
- Champion the Resorts culinary identity by ensuring every dish exceeds guest expectations for quality, flavour, and presentation.
- Work proactively to understand guest preferences and dining trends, adapting offerings to surprise and delight.
- Partner with other departments to create seamless, memorable dining experiences, whether for a quiet dinner or a large group event.
- Actively seek guest feedback and use insights to continually refine and improve culinary operations.
- Stay ahead of culinary trends and innovations, ensuring Brentwood Bay Resort continues to offer exceptional dining experiences that delight our guests.
What we hope you'll bring to the team
- A minimum of five years of culinary leadership experience, ideally in a high-volume or fine dining setting.
- Expertise in menu development, food costing, and culinary operations.
- Proven ability to lead and develop a diverse team, fostering a collaborative and supportive workplace.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build effective relationships across departments.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to exceeding guest expectations.
- Comprehensive knowledge of food safety regulations, WHMIS, and sanitation practices.
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to balance strategic planning and hands-on responsibilities.
- A proactive mindset, embracing challenges with creativity and adaptability.
What's in it for you?
- We offer a competitive annual salary ranging from $90,000 to $100,000. The starting salary for this position will be determined with consideration for the successful candidate's relevant education and experience as well as internal equity. The typical starting salary offered is between $90,000 to $95,000 per year.
