The Opportunity:

We're looking for an Accountant to join our Finance team for 13 months.

Reporting to the Manager, Financial Accounting the Accountant is primarily responsible for the daily cash planning including fund transfers, bank reconciliation, month-end and year-end accounting for the Aviso group. The Accountant also assists the manager with the regulatory audits and annual corporate audits. This position will provide back-up for other team members as necessary.

What your day looks like:

Financial Accounting Duties

  • Manage daily cash planning including making bank transfers as requested
  • Prepare bank reconciliation and post journal entries as required
  • Prepare reconciliation of the GL accounts to supporting documents, including monthly variance analysis. This includes analyzing source data and accounting systems, and liaising with other departments to validate month end balances and solve reconciliation issues
  • Respond to external inquiries
  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end processes as per service level agreement
  • Act as back up of other accounting duties as assigned
  • Manage month end reconciliation process including the preparation of binders
  • Prepare monthly variance analysis for P&L items
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and escalate issues as appropriate
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to support and maintain internal controls

Audit Duties

  • Prepare audit working papers and reconciliations
  • Respond to auditors' queries as appropriate

Requirements

Your experience and skills:

  • Post-secondary education in business or commerce, with a major in accounting is preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in the financial reporting
  • Superior computer skills; Sage Intacct, Excel
  • Understanding of securities and capital markets as well as previous experience in the security brokerage industry would be an asset
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Strong analytical skills and judgment
  • Fluent communication skills in English are required and bilingual skills in French are an asset
  • Ability to work well under pressure and with tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently to achieve required objectives
  • Working towards a CPA designation is an asset

Salary

This position is posted with an expected salary range of $52,000 - $63,000 CAD annually. Individual compensation packages are based on various factors unique to each candidate and the requirements of the position.
