Salary: 2024 Salary Range: $61,191 to $71,585 with full benefit package and pension

The Engineering Technician supports the overall planning, design, and development of the work of the Transportation Services Department; specifically focused on design, infrastructure and capital works.

Main duties include but are not limited to:

  • Complete analysis and technical review of drawings, specifications, applications and reports to ensure they conform with design standards, policies, guidelines and regulations. Prepare comments and correspondence related to the above and provide assistance and input with others as required.
  • Review a variety of transportation related permits and function as delegated authority for approval when assigned. Take responsibility to ensure various permits are completed and closed as required.
  • Coordinate the departmental circulation, review and approval of various development applications to ensure they are responded to within required timelines.
  • When required, prepare engineering drawings and plans in accordance with applicable policy, design standards and principles.
  • Support the development and review of policies, procedures, standards, plans and programs governing the department and provide recommendations to Managers and the Director.
  • Assist in the creation and review of internal design work, tenders, cost estimates and specifications. Support Operations and Capital Works staff in office or onsite as required.
  • Assist in reviewing and responding to concerns brought forward by residents in person and in writing. Conduct feasibility studies and assess the potential impacts of projects on the community and environment. Work with various staff to coordinate the submission and approval of project permits.
  • Function as the Transportation Services representative at various committee and stakeholder meetings.
  • Assist in the collection and maintenance of SDG Counties infrastructure database, including data collection, verification, input and analysis to support engineering reviews and analysis. Organize and maintain an up-todate library of engineering plans and other related documents. Research Transportation files and archives to assist in all facets of work.
  • Participate in programs, attend conferences and courses which foster professional or technical development where applicable and approved.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a three (3) year community college diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent.
  • Certified or eligibility for certification as a Certified Engineering Technologist.
  • Minimum of 2 years of demonstrated experience in civil engineering and design and construction preferably in a municipal setting.
  • Must have superior time management, organizational and analytical skills and possess in-depth knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act. A comprehensive understanding of applicable federal, provincial and municipal legislation is required.
  • Working knowledge of software such as GIS and CADD programs is considered an asset.
  • Valid Drivers Licence. Ability to provide a current satisfactory Drivers Abstract.
  • Ability to provide a current satisfactory Criminal Record Check.

2024 Salary Range: $61,191 to $71,585 with full benefit package and pension
