We are currently inviting applications for the position of Student Support Worker, who will serve as a Transition to Employment Facilitator within our Wheels Team. The WHEELS Program helps participants with diverse abilities gain the knowledge and skills for greater independence, community connection, and employment as they move from secondary school to the workforce. The program collaborates with local organizations, employers, and School District #23 to create these opportunities. This position is based out of our Wheels Program site located at 2235 Leckie Road in Kelowna.

Hours / Schedule:

This is a full-time position, 30 hours per week, and is limited to the school year.

Responsibilities:

The successful applicant's primary responsibility is to make every effort to ensure that students enrolled in the program secure, achieve, and maintain paid employment. The specific responsibilities of The Transition to Employment Facilitator include:

  • Assist students in preparing resumes and cover letters and support them with online job searches.
  • Transport students to and from job interviews, job search activities, and other program-related events.
  • Conduct mock interviews, provide guidance on workplace behavior, and teach effective communication strategies.
  • Help students identify their strengths and areas for growth (in relation to the students job search).
  • Maintain initiative-taking and reactive communication with employers and workers to ensure the ongoing success of student workers.
  • Update program teaching staff on students' progress.
  • Initiate and maintain employer appreciation activities.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Possession of a Certification, Diploma, or Degree in Employment Facilitation, and/ or experience in Human Resources, Recruitment, Career Development, or as a Certified Educational Assistant.

To be successful in your role, youll also need:

  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and verbal / written communication skills.
  • Be meticulous, organized, and efficient.
  • Be skilled at managing multiple concurrent projects, assignments and tasks requested from multiple sources.
  • Be capable of working independently, and frequently under pressure.
  • Experience is group facilitator, and one-to-one coaching is an asset.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office and Outlook.
  • Experience working with youth.

Other Requirements:

Given the nature of our work, please note that all shortlisted candidates:

  • Need a valid BC Driver's License, regional insurance, and a reliable personal vehicle.
  • Must undergo a screening process, including a criminal record search.

Wage / Benefits:

$ 27.00 $ 30.50 based on relevant experience and education.


Upon successful completion of a trial period, this position may be eligible for a full benefit package (if the successful applicant works 20 hours or more consistently) (including dental plan, vision coverage, life insurance, extended medical coverage, long-term disability plan, and RRSP or TFSA contributions); as well as accrued vacation and sick time at 5.8% - above BC Employment Standards!
