What is the role?

As an Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Designer at LEA Consulting Ltd., you will play a vital role in designing and implementing transportation systems that enhance infrastructure efficiency and safety. This position involves systems planning and design while ensuring projects meet high-quality standards. Youll contribute to the preparation of designs, drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and technical documentation, while collaborating with clients, engineers, and other teams to deliver innovative solutions. This role offers opportunities to work on high-impact projects while enhancing your technical expertise and career growth.

Candidates residing outside of the province of Ontario will also be considered.

In this role, your duties and responsibilitieswill include:

  • Design and develop system drawings, including construction layout plans, data communication and wiring schematics, and construction details.
  • Assist in developing project specifications, quantity calculations and cost estimates.
  • Attend project meetings, interface with clients and with other engineers.
  • Prepare regular reports for various phases of design.
  • Participate in conducting site visits, research, data collection/field surveys, data analysis, and documenting observations to prepare reports relating to existing and new systems.
  • Liaise with other design disciplines and sub-consultants in coordinating technical aspects of the work under the direction of an Engineer.
  • Ensure quality control and quality assurance are followed throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Continuously enhance professional skills and knowledge through training, seminars, workshops, and involvement in professional associations to stay updated on industry trends, software, and technology.
  • Participate in research and development of systems and products.
  • Work on a variety of systems and projects related to corridor traffic management, traffic signal control, transit management, data communications, and power distribution.
  • Manage other related duties and responsibilities within the scope of the Transportation Practice Area.

The qualifications you need:

  • Bachelors degree in Civil, Electrical or Systems Engineering.
  • 1-3 years of experience in ITS and/or systems design field.
  • Relevant Co-op experience is an asset and considered towards experience.
  • Strong interest and passion for ITS, related infrastructure systems, and technology.
  • Familiar with design and drafting software (AutoCAD and MicroStation).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Commitment to complete Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng) with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
  • A desire to learn and continually develop.
  • Enjoy working as a team member as well as independently.
  • Experience with low voltage power distribution design would be an asset.
  • Able to work on projects across Canada, and internationally.
