Your Contribution to NRSI
NRSI is looking for a locally-situated, motivated and independent individual to conduct field monitoring activities, primarily conducting wildlife mortality searches at operating wind energy facilities near Oyen, Alberta. This position provides an opportunity to gain experience in visual bird and bat identification, to implement scientific methods, and to collect and analyze data employing a high attention to detail. This position will report to one of NRSI's Renewable Energy Project Managers or Field Coordinators.
The primary duties and responsibilities for this role include:
  • Taking well-organized and detailed field notes,
  • Communicating frequently with project managers, other field staff, and clients,
  • Conducting searches according to a strict schedule, and safely collecting and handling bird and bat carcasses,
  • Occasional assistance with other field- or office-related tasks.
Your Education:
  • A post-secondary degree or diploma, or high school diploma.
Key Job Requirements:
  • Able to reliably commute to the field work location on a regular basis by the start date. A relocation allowance may be provided for a suitable candidate as needed.
  • Willing and able to work under inclement weather, in a variety of environmental and vegetation conditions, for long hours, and occasionally on holidays or weekends.
  • Physically fit in order to walk for several hours each day in potentially challenging terrain.
  • Demonstrated interest in wildlife and the environment, including the desire to pursue a career in this field.
  • A good work ethic and positive attitude, dependability, flexibility, and excellent communication.
  • Ability to work independently on a regular basis.
  • Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail, including the maintenance of well-organized and detailed field notes.
  • A valid driver's license and over 18 years old in order to drive a rental vehicle.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR Certification.
Assets:
  • Experience in the identification of birds and/or bats by sight.
  • Experience conducting wildlife surveys, soil assessments, vegetation inventories, or delineating vegetation communities using standard survey protocols.
  • A reliable personal vehicle insured for work purposes (authorized mileage will be reimbursed).

Salary: $22.00-$25.00 per hour commensurate on experience.
Estimated number of hours per week, including authorized travel: 20 - 40 hours.
