We're hiring summer student labourers to help deliver essential services to our community. This position helps to keep our parks and trails safe and looking beautiful by cutting grass, maintaining flower beds, trimming branches, and supporting special events.Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the general maintenance of all parks facilities including sports fields, trails, and horticulture areas,
  • Operate machinery such as string trimmers, leaf blowers, rototiller, push mower, wood chipper, vehicles, commercial mowers, tractors, pole saws,
  • Assist with Horticulture, Turf Maintenance or Arboriculture activities,
  • Clean washrooms, and other public use areas, and collect and dispose of garbage and litter as directed,
  • Assist with setup and takedown of special events and city functions,
  • Perform other related duties as directed by the Supervisor of Parks or designate.
Qualifications Essential:
  • Minimum Grade 12 and must be returning to a post-secondary school,
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions and be physically able to perform duties,
  • Must have Class G2 Ontario Driver's License in good standing.
Preferred:
  • Standard First Aid and CPR training
  • Experience operating a wide variety of handheld powered equipment,
  • Training with MTO Book 7 for Temporary Conditions, and proven knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other applicable legislation.
All successful candidates must be able to attend mandatory orientation training on April 28, 2025.
Working Conditions
  • Scheduled 40-hour workweek, which includes weekends and alternate shift hours,
  • Will be required to work in adverse weather conditions,
  • May be required to work overtime.
