The Senior Tax Accountant will be responsible for managing overall corporate tax compliance and strategy within the organization. This role requires a deep understanding of Canadian tax laws and regulations, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and file corporate tax returns and financial statements in compliance with Canadian tax regulations.
- Develop and implement tax planning strategies to optimize the company's tax position.
- Oversee payroll tax compliance and ensure the accurate reporting of HST (Harmonized Sales Tax).
- Monitor and manage CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) audits and inquiries, preparing necessary documentation and responses.
- Analyze and apply corporate tax concepts, including Capital Dividend Account (CDA), General Rate Income Pool (GRIP), eligible and non-eligible dividends, Enhanced Refundable Dividend Tax On Hand (ERDTOH), and Non-Eligible Refundable Dividend Tax On Hand (NERDTOH).
- Review and analyze financial statements for tax implications and provide recommendations to management.
- Conduct research on complex tax issues and provide well-reasoned conclusions and strategies.
- Liaise with external tax advisors and auditors on tax-related matters.
- Mentor and train junior tax staff, fostering a collaborative team environment.
- Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts with a focus on tax implications.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A Master's degree or CPA designation is highly preferred.
- Minimum of 7+ years of experience in corporate tax, preferably within a public accounting firm or corporate environment.
- Strong understanding of Canadian corporate tax laws and compliance, particularly regarding payroll regulations, HST, and CRA audits.
- Proven experience in preparing corporate taxes and financial statements in Canada.
- Comprehensive grasp of corporate tax concepts including CDA, GRIP, eligible and non-eligible dividends, ERDTOH, and NERDTOH.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex tax issues and develop effective solutions.
- Proficiency in tax software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with various stakeholders.
