We are looking for a Law Clerk in our Barrie office to work with our established Planning and Municipal team. The lawyer that you will be supporting practices in land-use planning and development law providing advice and representing clients at the Ontario Land Tribunal; applications at the Superior Court for title rectification and other property law matters; expropriation law; and providing other advice and representation to municipalities.
Working in a team environment with experienced Law Clerks, Assistants and Lawyers, you will be responsible for handling legal and administrative work. A great attitude and emphasis on client experience is a must.
The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of relevant experience as a municipal, planning or litigation clerk, including experience with respect to the responsibilities outlined below.
Responsibilities of this role include:
- The ability to work independently preparing, formatting and editing legal documents, correspondence and electronic document books;
- Communicating with clients, opposing parties, court and tribunal staff;
- Completing intake calls and emails with potential new clients;
- Working independently and as part of a team;
- Keeping files organized and clients happy;
- Managing calendar appointments and booking appointments including Teams meetings;
- Performing administrative work related to files including opening and closing files, preparation of accounts and client billings, processing of payments.
The successful candidate will be responsive, responsible and have good judgment. Experience administrative tribunal work is an asset. We are looking for someone who has a strong work ethic and excellent attention to detail to provide support to the department with a focus on client service. Excellent time management and computer skills are a pre-requisite. Program-specific IT training will be provided initially and then as required on an ongoing basis.
