Certified Group includes Food Safety Net Services (FSNS), Certified Laboratories, EAS Consulting Group, Labstat International Inc., Advanced Botanical Consulting & Testing (ABC Testing Inc.), Microconsult Inc., and Micro Quality Labs Inc. Certified Group provides laboratory testing and regulatory consulting services in the food & beverage, dietary supplements & NHP, cosmetics, OTC, tobacco, nicotine, cannabis, hemp, and other industries.

We are currently looking for a Statistician to join our growing team in Kitchener in our Labstat Division

This position will require knowledge of Canada and USA Legislation.

As a part of the EHS team, you will be responsible for supporting environmental, health and safety related initiatives, training, continuous improvement, incident response and investigations, reporting, and worker's compensation throughout the Certified Group (CG) Corporation and directly responsible for management of the EHS Program at Labstat facilities with occasional support to three other Canadian facilities. You will operate within a highly collaborative work environment and report directly to the Corporate EHS Director.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Collaboration and implementation of CG Corporate EHS Policies, Procedures and Forms as needed.
  • Coordination of EHS processes at Labstat and three other Canadian facilities. Requires traveling to remote locations and possibly U.S. locations.
  • Creation and Oversight of each facilities Safety/Management Meetings.
  • Maintain regular correspondence with the Corporate EHS Director.
  • Maintain EHS related documentation as needed.
  • Prepare for, participate in, and follow up on Corporate EHS Audits, as needed
  • Preparing Monthly, Quarterly and Yearly Safety Review Reports and budgets, as needed
  • Contribute to pollution reduction, recycling and sustainability efforts.
  • Development and distribution of Canadian Regional EHS communications.
  • Implementation of the Learning Management and Safety Management Systems (Online) and Sharepoint management, where needed.
  • Complete all Job Hazard Analysis worksheets and specific hazard assessment forms in order to identify significant risk factors and administer programs and training to reduce employee risk exposures.
  • Maintain applicable EHS scorecards as needed.
  • Review Canadian fleet telematics data for trends and develop action plans for improvement.
  • Chemical safety and compliance- ensuring chemical inventories for all labs and inventory rooms are being conducted, tracked, analyzed, with annual waste stream analysis and waste mgmt. plan reviews.
  • Ensure completion of and implementation of Chemical Hygiene Plans at all laboratories requiring such.
  • Safe Driving Program (Fleet Management Policy) – work with HR and facilities to maintain the driver's safety program. Validate drivers, pull MVR's, and coordinate Drivers Safety training.
  • WSIB, assistance with:
    1. Ensure accurate completion of incident investigation reports, database entry, and case management
    2. Determination of root-cause analysis for all incidents to ensure preventive measures are implemented to prevent any future reoccurrence.
    3. Incident tracking and trend analysis
    4. Main contact and administrator for any work-related WSIB illnesses or injuries, as needed
    5. Work in conjunction with HR staff and affected employees to design safety programs/training ensuring an early and safe return to work.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) program including:
    1. Review and evaluate of all PPE programs / requirements / usage / etc
  • Safety Supplies – maintaining PPE stock, ordering, research for needed or newer items, as needed.
  • Schedule, Coordinate, and Ensure Emergency Drills are being conducted, including:
    1. Semi-annual Fire Drills for all shifts and all buildings
    2. Annual Power Outage Drill
    3. Annual Severe Weather Drill
    4. Annual Active Shooter
    5. Participation and training on all Safety teams (Fire, Spill, Emergency Liaison, First Aid, etc)
  • Attendance at various Committee meetings, such as:
    1. Health and Safety/Management Meetings (monthly)
    2. Joint Health & Safety Committee meetings (JHSC) (as needed)
    3. Laboratory Manager / Regional Manager meetings (weekly)
    4. Operations (monthly)
    5. Biosafety Committee (Annually)
  • Coordination of and oversight of hazardous waste pick-ups, removal of chemicals, maintaining manifests, waste stream analysis, and annual waste summary reports, as needed.
  • Health & Safety Training
    1. Ensure Canadian EHS training programs are being assigned, completed, and monitored by submitting summary reports, as needed. This could include direct training administration, arranging for outside providers or managing online training portals.
  • Promote safe work practices and safety awareness through all levels while actively reinforcing a culture of safety
  • Ensure all facility inspections are completed on-time by either conducting them personally or having oversight of the inspection program. Report all findings through local management channels.
  • Maintaining and revising all documents relating to the Biosafety/Biosecurity Manual and License.
  • Coordination of air monitoring- proposal for specific air monitoring from outside agency, communication of results with Management, JHSC, workers (as needed)
  • Labstat rep for managing the communication with Canadian Ministry of Labor , regulatory submissions such as hazard waste reporting (RPRA), mandatory trainings (TDG , first aid etc,).
  • Other duties as assigned

Back Up Duties:

  • Maintains Contractor and Visitor Safety Program including:
    1. WSIB Contractor Clearance Certificates
    2. Prequalification Forms and screening for approval
  • Maintenance of Program with the Ministry of Environment including:
    1. Completion of ECA (C of A)
    2. Completion of NPRI Report

Travel to Other facilities (10% of time) Canada(Kitchener, ON and Edmonton, AB) and USA Facilities (Greensboro, Knoxville)

Qualifications/experience required:

  • Completion of College, technical institute diploma or University degree in Occupational Health & Safety
  • Familiar with the creation, administration and maintenance of Health and Safety Programs within a laboratory environment (2 years preferred)
  • Familiar with the identification and control of laboratory hazards
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) in order to train staff and draft safety documentation
  • Detail-oriented to conduct safety inspections and investigations
  • Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills
  • Must be able to work cooperatively in a team environment
