The Regina Open Door Society Inc. is seeking a qualified individual to staff the full-time term position of Volunteer Support Case Worker. The start date for this position is January 2, 2025, to March 31, 2025, with the possibility of an extension

Position Summary

This position reports to the Manager of Settlement and Family Services and the Welcoming Community for Newcomers Team Leader.

The primary mandate of this position is to work in close collaboration with WCN Team Leader to promote volunteering opportunities within the community. Volunteers are needed to facilitate group activities such as social and cultural programs, networking for professionals, and conversation circles, as well as individual mentoring and support.

Other responsibilities include recruiting, training, matching and supporting volunteers to enable them to assist newcomers to participate in the community. This position will also work with the WCN Team Leader to deliver leadership training for newcomers and connecting newcomers with organizations for volunteering opportunities.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Work in close collaboration with WCN Team Leader to recruit volunteers for various opportunities such as mentors, tutors, event helpers and group activities facilitators
  • Conduct intake with newcomer clients
  • Promote volunteering opportunities within settlement program
  • Recruit and support Volunteers in various opportunities and activities (as
  • Mentors, Literacy Tutors, Event Helpers, Group activities etc.)
  • Deliver training and orientation workshops for all incoming volunteers
  • Deliver Leadership training for newcomers (i.e., Toastmasters, Writing Workshops etc.)
  • Match newcomers with Community organizations for volunteering opportunities
  • Prepare reports (i.e., volunteers and community connection activities, monthly, annual, financial, meeting minutes).
  • Work with other staff and community agencies to organize events (i.e.,
  • Volunteer Appreciation Event).
  • Working with clients and volunteers to overcome intercultural communications difficulties
  • Promote and Deliver Orientation Sessions, Conversation Circles and Leadership Programs on Volunteerism (i.e., INVOLVE, Wednesday Conversation Circles, etc.).
  • Utilize marketing resources to promote activities and disseminate information that is consistent to RODS marketing and Communications Plan.
  • Develop program-relevant resource materials as needed.
  • Compile and maintain the volunteer database to generate reports, statistics and analysis on the agency's utilization of and impact of volunteers on the Community Connections program
  • Attend conferences and workshops that promote volunteering and volunteer management profession, as required.

Desired qualifications/Education:
  • Volunteer certification/diploma or an equivalent combination of related training and a minimum of 2 years' experience in the Volunteer support position. A relevant undergraduate degree is preferred.
  • Proficient verbal and written knowledge of English
  • Additional language skills relevant to populations served is an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to promote volunteerism
  • Ability to identify volunteer strengths/needs concerning volunteer opportunities
  • Understanding of social service programming and resources, multiculturalism and immigrant/refugee issues
  • Ability to organize and facilitate group activities
  • Ability to maintain and keep accurate and up-to-date client records
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal/relationship-building intercultural competency, as well as crisis intervention, conflict resolution, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills/techniques
  • Strong level of computer proficiency; in particular, robust Microsoft Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel spreadsheet, database, internet/email, scanning skills, Teams, Zoom, social media platforms, etc.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multicultural and diverse environment
  • Ability to work independently, set priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Flexibility and willingness to work outside of regular work hours
  • Excellent teamwork and strong work ethics

Regular work hours of work are Monday to Friday from 8:15 AM to 4:00 PM. This position will be required to work after hours (evenings and weekends). All positions at RODS require a clean criminal record/child abuse registry check. There is a cost-shared benefits package and a 3% employer contribution to the Saskatchewan Pension Plan available to the employee with the successful completion of a six-month probationary period. The annual salary for this position is $ 42,379,85 ($24.15 per hour).
